Cheshire West and Chester is a Unitary authorities of England, unitary authority with Borough status in the United Kingdom, borough status in the ceremonial county of Cheshire, England. It was established on 1 April 2009 as part of the 2009 structural changes to local government in England, 2009 local government changes, by virtue of an order under the Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act 2007. It superseded the boroughs of Ellesmere Port and Neston, Vale Royal and the Chester (district), City of Chester; its council assumed the functions and responsibilities of the former Cheshire County Council within its area. Handbridge
Handbridge is a district of Chester, England on the south bank of the River Dee, Wales, River Dee. A settlement has existed on the site since the Iron Age , but the site saw major expansion during the collapse of the Roman occupation of Britain, as the city grew too large for its city wall, walls. The site was originally mainly a quarry for the abundant red sandstone that much Chester is built from, but in later years became a centre for salmon fishing in the Dee. The area runs continuously into Queens Park, Cheshire, Queens Park. Within Handbridge there is a primary school, Overleigh St Mary's, and two secondary schools: Chester Catholic High School and Queens Park High School. Queen's Park High School or QPHS is a co-educational secondary school and sixth form located in Queens Park, Chester, England. The school symbol is the heraldic lion, and the school uniform consists of a blue blazer with a small white lion on the left hand side, and black or blue trousers. History Queen's Park High School although only coming under its current name in 1971 is the oldest non-public school in Chester. Boys' School Chester City Grammar School for Boys developed out of a technical day school, which opened at the Grosvenor Museum in 1892. Following the Education Act, 1902, it was decided to adapt the day technical school to meet the requirements of the Act, and its name was changed to City and County School for Boys in June 1907. Samantha Dixon
Samantha Kate Dixon is a British politician of the Labour Party who serves as Member of Parliament (MP) for the City of Chester, winning the seat in the 2022 City of Chester by-election. Between 2015 and 2019, Dixon was the leader of Cheshire West and Chester Council, the first woman to hold this position. Early life Dixon has lived in Chester since the age of four, in areas including Hoole and Upton-by-Chester, and attended Christleton High School. She has a BA (1987) in English literature (British and Commonwealth) from the University of Sheffield, and worked for Sotheby's as a senior press officer from 1989 to 1997.
