Queens-Shelburne
Queens-Shelburne is a provincial electoral district in Nova Scotia, Canada, that elects one member of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. The riding was created in 2012 with 89 per cent of the former district of Queens, 46 per cent of the former district of Shelburne and 1 per cent of the former district of Digby-Annapolis. It consists of the towns of Lockeport and Shelburne, the Municipality of the District of Shelburne, and the Region of Queens Municipality. Sterling Belliveau
Sterling William Wallace Belliveau (born August 5, 1953) is a Canadian politician. Belliveau represented the electoral district of Shelburne (now Queens-Shelburne) in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 2006 to 2017 as a member of the Nova Scotia New Democratic Party. Early life Belliveau grew up in Woods Harbour, Nova Scotia and was previously a self-employed fisherman. Political career Municipal politics Belliveau served for three terms as a municipal councillor representing District 1 (Charlesville, Forbes Point and Woods Harbour) on the municipal council for the Municipality of the District of Barrington; two of those terms he served as warden. Queens is a provincial electoral district in Nova Scotia, Canada which existed between 1867 and 2013 and since 2021. It elects one member to the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. The electoral district includes the entirety of Queens County and a small part of Annapolis. The electoral district was abolished following the 2012 electoral boundary review and was largely replaced by the new electoral district of Queens-Shelburne. Shelburne is a provincial electoral district in Nova Scotia, Canada which existed between 1867 and 2013 and since 2021. Since 2021 and between 1933 and 2013 it has elected one member to the Nova Scotia House of Assembly; from 1867 to 1933 it elected two members. The electoral district includes Shelburne County in its entirety. The electoral district was abolished following the 2012 electoral boundary review and was largely replaced by the new electoral districts of Queens-Shelburne and Argyle-Barrington. 2013 Nova Scotia General Election
The 2013 Nova Scotia general election was held on October 8, 2013, to elect members to the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. The result of the election was a Liberal victory under the leadership of Stephen McNeil, with the party winning its first election since 1998. The Progressive Conservatives, under the leadership of Jamie Baillie, improved on their 2009 results and formed the Official Opposition, despite winning fewer votes than the New Democratic Party (NDP). The NDP, which had won power for the first time in 2009 under the leadership of Darrell Dexter was reduced to third place and became only the second one-term government in the province's history, and the first since 1882. Queens County is a county in the Provinces and territories of Canada, Canadian province of Nova Scotia. History Liverpool, Nova Scotia, Liverpool, the county seat of Queens County, was founded in 1759 by the New England Planters. Founded for the most part by New England settlers, Liverpool maintained strong ties with the American colonies until the sudden outbreak of the American Revolution. Shelburne County
Shelburne County is a county in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. History Shelburne County was founded in 1784 shortly following the influx of Loyalist settlers evacuated from the newly independent United States of America. It was originally named Port Roseway, until it became a very busy town and was considered to be the capital of Nova Scotia, in which the name was changed to Shelburne in an attempt to please Lord Shelburne, the British Prime Minister from 1782 to 1783. The boundaries of Shelburne County were established by Governor and Council on December 16, 1785. The first Loyalists arrived in May 1783. They were faced with a somewhat bleak environment in which to make their homes. The land is very rocky with acidic soil. There is also a lot of forest. The Region of Queens Municipality is a regional municipality in southwestern Nova Scotia, Canada.
