New England Fifty Finest
The New England Fifty Finest is a list of mountains in New England, used in the mountaineering sport of peak bagging. The list comprises the 50 summits with the highest topographic prominence — a peak's height above the lowest contour which encloses that peak and no higher peak. The list includes 20 peaks in Maine, 15 in Vermont, 14 in New Hampshire, and one in Massachusetts. This list differs substantially from lists of peaks by elevation, such as the Four-thousand footers, New England 4000 Footers. For instance, only one peak in the Presidential Range is on this list because the others do not have a major prominence, being connected to Mount Washington (New Hampshire), Mount Washington by ridgelines that are nowhere below . Adirondack High Peaks
The Adirondack High Peaks are a set of 46 mountain peaks in the Adirondack Mountains of New York (state), New York state. They have been popular hiking destinations since the late 1920s, when the list of peaks was published in Russell Carson's book ''Peaks and Peoples of the Adirondacks''. Those who have climbed all 46 High Peaks are eligible to join the Adirondack Forty-Sixers club. Origin The list of peaks was originally compiled by the mountaineers Herbert Clark, Bob Marshall (wilderness activist), Bob Marshall, and George Marshall (conservationist), George Marshall, with input from Russell Carson. The Marshall brothers wished to climb every notable peak in the Adirondacks, which they accomplished with Clark between 1918 and 1925. Four-thousand Footers
Four-thousand footers (sometimes abbreviated 4ks) are a group of forty-eight mountains in New Hampshire at least above sea level. To qualify for inclusion a peak must also meet the more technical criterion of topographic prominence important in the mountaineering sport of peak-bagging. The White Mountains Four Thousand Footers List is established (and revised from time to time) by the Appalachian Mountain Club. The AMC calls it the White Mountains List, but others call it the New Hampshire List because it does not include Old Speck Mountain (4,170 ft) in Maine, which is outside the White Mountain National Forest but within the White Mountains. The AMC also maintains a list of New England 4000 Footers, all falling within Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. Northeast 111
The Northeast 111 is a peak-bagging list of mountains in the northeastern states of the United States. It includes the sixty-seven 4000-footers of New England (48 in New Hampshire, 14 in Maine and 5 in Vermont), the 46 Adirondack High Peaks, and Slide and Hunter Mountain, both in the Catskills of New York. This list includes 115 peaks but is still referred to as the "Northeast 111" because that name predates the additions of Galehead Mountain and Bondcliff in New Hampshire, as well as Mount Redington and Spaulding Mountain in Maine, due to later surveys determining they do indeed rise to and satisfy topographic prominence requirements. Montagne Des Érables
The Montagne des Érables, also known as Mont des Érables (translation: ''Maple Mountain''), is a massif located in the Charlevoix-Est regional county municipality in the Charlevoix region of Quebec, Canada. It lies in the Hautes-Gorges-de-la-Rivière-Malbaie National Park and is home to l'Acropole des Draveurs, a popular hike in the province. It is accessible via the entrances to the park, the main one being located in Saint-Aimé-des-Lacs. Etymology The mountain (along with many other geographic features and manmade installations in the park), whose name translates to "Maple Mountain," takes its name from the unique presence of maples juxtaposed with the tundra. Caribou Mountain (Franklin County, Maine)
Caribou Mountain is a mountain on the Canada–United States border, the section of which follows the height of land of the Saint Lawrence River watershed. The peak is located about inside Franklin County, Maine. The southwest end of Caribou's summit ridge is in Le Granit Regional County Municipality, Québec. The northwest side of Caribou Mountain drains into the West Branch of the Moose River, thence into the South Branch of the Moose, the Moose River, and the Kennebec River, then into the Gulf of Maine. The southeast side of Caribou Mountain drains into Number Six Brook, then into the South Branch of the Moose River.
