Quasar-Unipower
The Quasar-Unipower was a box-like car produced in limited numbers between 1967 and 1968 by Universal Power Drives of Perivale, Middlesex, England who also built the Unipower GT sports car. Designed by Quasar Khanh, a French-Vietnamese designer and engineer, the car used plastic inflatable seats, a glass roof and sliding glass doors, in a cube-like configuration that was wider than it was long. The Unipower employed a four-cylinder 1100 cc BMC engine with an automatic transmission. Modified Mini subframes carried the suspension components and Mini 10 inch wheels were used. Universal Power Drives
Universal Power Drives was a British truck manufacturer which branded its trucks with the ''Unipower'' marque. History ''Universal Power Drives'' was founded in 1934 with a factory in Perivale and its head office in Aldwych, London. During the 1930s, 40s and 50s it specialised in producing 4x4 forestry logging trucks. In 1972 it launched the 4x4 Unipower Invader suited to fire-fighting and construction use. Todd Motors in New Zealand produced the TS3 Commer Truck, in the early 1970s, with a Unipower tandem drive assembly as a factory option. In January 1966 they exhibited a sports car, the Unipower GT at the Racing Car Show. Another car they produced was the Quasar-Unipower which was built in 1967 and 1968. Unipower GT
The Unipower GT is a British specialist sports car that debuted at the January 1966 Racing Car Show. It uses the powertrain from the BMC Mini mounted amidships. Production lasted until the end of 1969. History Early development Ernie Unger worked at Lotus in 1954 and 1955 as a mechanic and racing car preparer, then entered the student-apprenticeship program with the Rootes Group, eventually becoming a development engineer on the Hillman Imp. His racing involvement included a stint as team manager for Elva. Inspired by the sophisticated engineering and body development of the Italian Abarths, Unger produced sketches for a car meant to combine these qualities with the excellent vehicle dynamics of the best contemporary British sportscars. Nguyen Manh Khanh (1934 in Hanoi – June 30, 2016 in Ho Chi Minh City), also known as Quasar Khanh, was a French and Vietnamese engineer, an inventor, and a designer. The Vietnamese and French community significantly recognizes him for his inflatable furniture line Aerospace. At the age of fifteen, Khanh moved to Paris, and established himself as the most significant Vietnamese furniture designer of the 20th century. He was one of a handful of designers whose shocking products, in color and in form, were in touch with the renegade spirit of the 1960s. Biography During Khanh’s early adulthood he studied engineering at the National School of Bridges and Roads (1955-1958) in Paris. There, he met the beautiful and talented French fashion designer Emmanuelle. They married in 1957 and later had their daughter Atlantic Khanh. Perivale () is an area of Greater London, west of Charing Cross. It is the smallest of the seven towns which make up the London Borough of Ealing. Perivale is mostly residential, with a library, community centre, a number of parks and open spaces, as well as a large industrial estate.
