Qieding District
Qieding District (or Jiading; ) is a coastal suburban district in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Name and pronunciation Etymology One theory is that it is named for a type of local mangrove. Another is that it derived from a Makattao aboriginal name, written as "Cattia" or "Cattea" by Europeans, meaning "place of many fish" (literally "ten fish"). This was then rendered as ''Ka-tang-tiāⁿ-á'' () and ''Ka-tiāⁿ-á'' () in Taiwanese Hokkien and also ''Ka-tiāⁿ'' () or ''Ka-têng'' () with both sets of characters also referring to types of ''Avicennia'' (''cf''. ''Avicennia marina'', ). Pronunciation and Romanization Traditionally, the name is pronounced ''Ka-tiāⁿ'' in Taiwanese and ''Jiādìng'' in Mandarin. Districts are administrative subdivisions of the Taiwan, Republic of China (Taiwan)'s special municipality (Taiwan), special municipalities of the second level and provincial city (Taiwan), provincial cities of the third level formerly under its Provinces of China, provinces. Hanyu Pinyin
Hanyu Pinyin (), often shortened to just pinyin, is the official romanization system for Standard Mandarin Chinese in China, and to some extent, in Singapore and Malaysia. It is often used to teach Mandarin, normally written in Chinese form, to learners already familiar with the Latin alphabet. Hsinta Power Plant
The Hsinta Power Plant or Hsing-ta Power Plant () is a coal-fired power plant in Yong'an District and Qieding District in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. With a total installed capacity of 4,326 MW, the plant is Taiwan's second largest coal-fired power plant after the 5,500 MW Taichung Power Plant (coal-generated power only). It is the oldest coal-fired power plant in Taiwan as of 2019 and was built 37 years ago without any prior air quality impact evaluation., making it notorious for polluting air quality in southern Taiwan for decades. Components The coal yards of the power plant was designed as an indoor type to mitigate local environment impacts. It consists of four coal domes with 170,000 tonnes of storage capacity each, which enables the continuous supply for all of the generation units for 50 days of operation. Legislative Yuan
The Legislative Yuan is the unicameral legislature of the Republic of China (Taiwan) located in Taipei. The Legislative Yuan is composed of 113 members, who are directly elected for 4-year terms by people of the Taiwan Area through a parallel voting system. Originally located in Nanking, the Legislative Yuan, along with the National Assembly (electoral college) and the Control Yuan (upper house), formed the tricameral parliament under the original 1947 Constitution. The Legislative Yuan previously had 759 members representing each constituencies of all provinces, municipalities, Tibet, Outer Mongolia and various professions. Special municipality, historically known as Yuan-controlled municipality is a first-level administrative division unit in the Republic of China (Taiwan). Under the administrative structure of Taiwan, it is the highest level of division in Taiwan and is equivalent to a province. Kaohsiung County was a county in southern Taiwan between 1945 and 2010. The county seat was located in Fongshan City. History Kaohsiung County was established on 6 December 1945 on the territory of Takao Prefecture () shortly after the end of World War II. In the early years, Kaohsiung County consists of most territory of Takao Prefecture except the territory near cities of Takao (Kaohsiung) and Heitō ( Pingtung). Townships are the third-level administrative subdivisions of counties of the Republic of China (Taiwan), along with county-administered cities. After World War II, the townships were established from the following conversions on the Japanese administrative divisions: Although local laws do not enforce strict standards for classifying them, generally urban townships have a larger population and more business and industry than rural townships, but not to the extent of county-administered cities.
