Qala I Naw Airport
Qala i Naw Airport ; ( prs, میدان هوایی قلعه نو) is a small airport serving the city of Qala i Naw in Badghis Province, Afghanistan. It is also known as Qala Nau Airport. It previously had scheduled services with the now defunct Pamir Airways. This airport is unique in the fact that the runway was originally a highway utilized when there was no air traffic. The runway lies adjacent to the site of a former Spanish forward operating base (FOB), now transferred to the Afghan government. The airport is mainly used for military purposes, including by the Afghan Air Force (AAF). Qala e Naw Airport has located next to Qala i Naw Airport. Badghis Province
Bādghīs (Dari: ) is one of the thirty-four provinces of Afghanistan, located in the northwest of the country, on the border with Turkmenistan. Qala I Naw, Afghanistan
Qala-e-Naw ( prs, قلعه نو) is a town in Qala e Naw District and the capital of Badghis Province, in north-west Afghanistan. Its population was estimated at 9,000 in 2006, of which 80% are Tajiks, Hazaras, and Aimaq Hazara. Other significant communities include Pashtuns, Balochs and Uzbeks. The city of Qala-e-naw has a population of 64,125 people (2015) with 6 Police districts (nahias) and a total land area of 3,752 Hectares. There are 7,125 total number of dwellings in Qala-e-Naw. Qala-e-naw is the provincial capital of Badghis Province. Qala-e-Naw is a Provincial Centre located in western Afghanistan north of the Paropamisus Mountains (Selseleh-ye Safīd Kūh). Pamir Airways was a privately owned airline headquartered in Kabul, Afghanistan, operating scheduled passenger flights out of Kabul International Airport. The company name is derived from the Pamir Mountains and translates "roof of the world". History As the first private airline in the history of the country, Pamir Airways was issued an Air Operator's Certificate in 1994 by the authorities then in charge of civil aviation in the Islamic State of Afghanistan. Afghan Air Force
The Air Force of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, also referred to as the Islamic Emirate Air Force and the Afghan Air Force, is the air force branch of the Armed Forces of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. The Royal Afghan Air Force was established in 1921 under the reign of King Amanullah and significantly modernized by King Zahir Shah in the 1960s. During the 1980s, the Soviet Union built up the Afghan Air Force, first in an attempt to defeat the mujahideen and in hopes that strong Afghan airpower would preserve the pro-Soviet government of Mohammad Najibullah. When Najibullah eventually fell in 1992 the Afghan Air Force may have counted 350 aircraft.
