Putnam Area Rapid Transit
Putnam Transit or Putnam Area Rapid Transit (PART) is the provider of bus transit in Putnam County, New York. An agency of the Putnam County government, Putnam Transit came into service in the mid-1970s as a startup system in the wake of growing suburbanization of Putnam County and rising gas prices. Vehicles and routes are owned by Putnam County, and service is provided under contract to the county by MV Transportation. Routes Putnam Transit currently operates four year-round routes, all of which meet at various points during the day at Putnam Plaza, a strip mall in the county seat of Carmel. There is also a seasonal tourist trolley service in Cold Spring. A sixth route is catered towards Metro North commuters going to New York via the Harlem Line. Brewster, New York
Brewster is a village and the principal settlement within the town of Southeast in Putnam County, New York. Its population was 2,390 at the time of the 2010 census. Garrison, New York
Garrison is a hamlet in Putnam County, New York, United States. It is part of the town of Philipstown, on the east side of the Hudson River, across from the United States Military Academy at West Point. The Garrison Metro-North Railroad station serves the town. Garrison (a.k.a. Garrison's Landing) was named after 2nd Lieutenant Isaac Garrison, who held a property lot on the Hudson River across from West Point and conducted a ferry service across the Hudson River between the two hamlets. Isaac and his son Beverly Garrison fought in the Battle of Fort Montgomery in 1777, were captured by the British and later set free. The Garrison train wreck took place near Garrison on the Great Hudson River Railway on October 24, 1897, killing 20 people. Patterson (Metro-North Station)
Patterson station is a commuter rail stop on the Metro-North Railroad's Harlem Line, located in Patterson, New York. It is the northernmost station on the line in Putnam County, and the first station beyond the end of electrification. History The New York and Harlem Railroad built their main line through Patterson towards Dover Plains in 1848, when Patterson station opened. NY&H was acquired by the New York Central and Hudson River Railroad in 1864 and eventually taken over by the New York Central Railroad. Brewster (Metro-North Station)
Brewster station is a commuter rail stop on the Metro-North Railroad's Harlem Line, located in Brewster, New York. A sizable amount of the station's ridership comes from across the Connecticut state line given the quicker trips, shorter headways, and (outside peak hours) lack of a mid-trip transfer to Grand Central as opposed to taking the Danbury Branch of the New Haven Line. Because of this, Housatonic Area Regional Transit (the Greater Danbury-area mass transit provider) has a route and a shuttle connecting Danbury to Brewster station. Harlem Line
The Metro-North Railroad Harlem Line, originally chartered as the New York and Harlem Railroad, is an commuter rail line running north from New York City to Wassaic, in eastern Dutchess County. The lower from Grand Central Terminal to Southeast, in Putnam County, is electrified with a third rail and has at least two tracks. The section north of Southeast is a non-electrified single-track line served by diesel locomotives. The diesel trains usually run as a shuttle on the northern end of the line, except for rush-hour express trains in the peak direction (four to Grand Central in the morning, four from Grand Central in the evening) and one train in each direction on weekends. Housatonic Area Regional Transit
Housatonic Area Regional Transit, known popularly as HARTransit (formerly as HART), is the provider of public transportation for Danbury, Connecticut and surrounding communities. HARTransit was founded in 1972 as the Danbury-Bethel Transit District by the two municipalities. The name was changed to Housatonic Area Regional Transit in 1979 after the addition of other municipal members. The agency receives funding from municipal contracts, the Connecticut Department of Transportation, Federal Transit Administration and (on a limited basis) the New York State Department of Transportation. Jefferson Valley Mall is an enclosed shopping mall in Yorktown, New York. Opened in 1983, it is anchored by Macy's and Dick's Sporting Goods. It is managed by Washington Prime Group. History Melvin Simon & Associates built Jefferson Valley Mall in 1983, which included Sears and Read's (later Jordan Marsh, then Abraham & Straus, now Macy's). Expansion plans were announced in 1996. Bee-Line Bus System
The Westchester County Bee-Line System, branded on the buses in lowercase as ''the bee-line system'', is a bus system serving Westchester County, New York. The system is owned by the county's Department of Public Works and Transportation. History The system was founded on May 1, 1978, by the then Westchester County Department of Transportation to consolidate the bus system with thirteen private bus companies and has been given control over the buses, fare structure, routes, and services.
