Puijo (district)
Puijo is a district of Kuopio, Finland. It is located north of the center of Kuopio, along the European route E63. The area includes, among other things, Puijo Hill with its nature reserves, and the Great Cemetery of Kuopio on the south side of the hill between the five roads and the railroad track. There are many exercise and sports venues in the district. Right at the northern end of Sokos Hotel Puijonsarvi, the Puijo district extends to Lake Kallavesi, on the eastern side of the peninsula it is bordered by the Päiväranta, Kettulanlahti and Rahusenkangas districts. To the east of Puijo are districts Julkula, Rypysuo and Puijonlaakso Puijonlaakso is a district in the city of Kuopio, Finland. Kuopio
Kuopio (, ) is a Finnish city and municipality located in the region of Northern Savonia. It has a population of , which makes it the most populous municipality in Finland. Along with Joensuu, Kuopio is one of the major urban, economic, and cultural hubs of Eastern Finland. At the end of 2018, its urban area had a population of 89,307. Puijo Hill
Puijo is a hill, the famous landmark of city of Kuopio in Finland and a tourist attraction. It is located near the Puijonlaakso district. Puijo Ridge The ridge of Puijo is a well-known and popular recreation area. A observation tower, Puijo tower, is atop the hill, near the city centre of Kuopio. The tower affords a memorable mosaic of blue lakes and green islands and a large primeval forest. A revolving panoramic restaurant is located at the top of tower, featuring local specialities. Many paths and a large track network are located on the ridge, including two nature trails. People can move freely on most of Puijo ridge, but are restricted to the paths in the nature conservation area and in some areas less resistant to use. Gathering of plants is allowed. Great Cemetery Of Kuopio
The Great Cemetery of Kuopio ( fi, Kuopion Iso hautausmaa) is a large cemetery located in the Puijo district in Kuopio, Finland. The cemetery was founded in 1867 and has been expanded several times in the 20th century. The cemetery is located in the area of Kuopio Cathedral Parish and is also known as the Kuopio City Parish Cemetery. The cemetery is bordered on the south by the Kouvola–Iisalmi railway, on the west by the Blessing Chapels along Karjalankatu and the building of the Finnish Orthodox Church Museum and Ecclesiastical Government, on the north by the Highway 5, and on the east by Puijonkatu street. The cemetery has a graveyard of various faiths established in the early 20th century, in which the Eastern Orthodox population is buried; the cemetery also has a burial place for Russian soldiers – the Cossacks of Don – and a memorial chapel built for it in 1912.
