Ptychococcus
''Ptychococcus'' is a monoecious genus of flowering plant in the palm family from New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. They are closely related to ''Ptychosperma'', only differentiated by the seed shape and endocarp type.Uhl, Natalie W. and Dransfield, John (1987) ''Genera Palmarum - A classification of palms based on the work of Harold E. Moore''. Lawrence, Kansas: Allen Press. / The name is a combination of the Greek for "fold" and the Latin for "berry". Description The trunks grow to 15 m, usually no wider than 25 cm, and both are solitary, ringed, and crownshafted. The leaf is pinnately compounded, in long sheaths, usually covered in scales and hairs, as is the short petiole. The ridged rachis is flattened on the bottom and also covered in hairy tomentum. The unusual leaflets are once-folded and toothed, twisting upwards in their bottom half. Each leaflet also bears scales and a prominent midrib, with tomentose margins, and lacking visible veinlets. The inflore ...

The Palm and Cycads Societies of Australia (PACSOA) describes this palm as follows: ''"Very attractive palm with long (2-3m.) plumose leaves (hence the name 'Foxtail'), and up to 10m tall with a grey trunk. Solfia
''Balaka insularis'' is a rare species of flowering plant in the palm family endemic to Samoa. It was formerly placed in the monotypic genus ''Solfia'' with the species name ''Solfia samoensis''. It was placed in the genus '' Balaka'' in 2014.Zona S, Baker WJ. 2014Solfia transferred to Balaka ''Palms'' 58: 191–192. Description The trunk is solitary and ringed, colored brown, no more than 8 cm wide. The sheath of the pinnate leaf is extended, wrapping around the trunk to form a tall, slender crownshaft. The petiole is short, the thin rachis bears regularly spaced, reduplicate leaflets with a prominent midrib and jagged ends. The inflorescence emerges below the crownshaft, initially enclosed by a prophyll, with a single peduncular bract. Monoecious, there are staminate and pistillate flowers present in each plant, borne on the rachillae as triads of two males surrounding one female. Fleshy and red when ripe, the fruit becomes wrinkled when dry, carrying one seed with hom ...

Normanbya
''Normanbya'' is a monotypic genus of palms containing the single species ''Normanbya normanbyi'', which is known by the common name black palm It is endemic to Queensland, Australia and is threatened by habitat destruction. Description ''Normanbya normanbyi'' is visually very similar to the more well-known Foxtail palm but is slightly smaller in all respects. It is a single-stemmed palm with attractive "bushy" fronds, similar to a bottlebrush. It grows to a height of with a small crown of fronds each measuring around long with a petiole about long. The fronds have 75-95 whorled pinnae (leaflets) up to in length, each of which are divided longitudinally into 7-11 radiating segments, giving the fronds the bushy appearance. The pinnae are dark green on the upper surface and silvery underneath and the tips are abruptly truncated (like a fishtail). The inflorescence (grouping of flowers) is a panicle and is borne on the trunk just below the crownshaft. They are around long ...

Manjekia
''Manjekia'' is a monotypic genus of palm for a species of palm native to Biak island, Indonesia, off the northwest coast of New Guinea. The genus was proposed in 2014. Its sole species is ''Manjekia maturbongsii'', which was first described in 2012 as ''Adonidia maturbongsii''. The specific epithet honours Rudi Maturbongs for his contributions to the study of palms in Biak. In 2014, the original authors decided that it was sufficiently distinct to be transferred from ''Adonidia'' to its own genus, ''Manjekia''. The transfer has been accepted by sources such as Plants of the World Online Plants of the World Online (POWO) is an online database published by the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. It was launched in March 2017 with the ultimate aim being "to enable users to access information on all the world's known seed-bearing plants by .... Carpentaria
''Carpentaria acuminata'' (carpentaria palm), the sole species in the genus ''Carpentaria'', is a Arecaceae, palm native to tropical coastal regions in the north of Northern Territory, Australia. It is a slender palm, growing to tall in the garden situation, with a trunk diameter. The leaf, leaves are pinnate, long. However, in its natural rainforest location such as at Fogg Dam Monsoon Forest east of Darwin, specimens often exceed in height. It is a popular ornamental plant in northern Australia, valued for its rapid growth and very elegant foliage. In recent years, particularly in the capital of the Northern Territory, Darwin, the maturation of gardens after their destruction during Cyclone Tracy in 1974, has resulted in many thousands of specimens of these local palms reaching maturity and fruiting. This has led to many carpentaria palms being removed because of the high volumes of fruits they produce. The ripening fruits attract fruit bats and Torres Strait pigeons w ...

Brassiophoenix
''Brassiophoenix'' is a monoecious genus of flowering plant in the palm family found in Papua New Guinea. Of the two similar species, one is more common in cultivation and was mistakenly identified as '' Brassiophoenix schumannii''. In 1999, Zona and Estig showed that the commonly cultivated species was instead the type species '' Brassiophoenix drymophoeoides''. The two species are distinguished by their separated geographical locations and minor differences in fruit form.Riffle, Robert L. and Craft, Paul (2003) ''An Encyclopedia of Cultivated Palms''. Portland: Timber Press. / The genus name is a combination of the surname Brass, honoring the first collector L.J. Brass, and ''Phoenix'', another palm genus. Description Both species grow to around 9 m in height on 8 cm trunks culminating in 60 cm tall, slightly bulging crownshafts and sparse leaf crowns. The stiff, unarching leaves are pinnate to 2 m in length, petioles short or absent, the pinnae being regularl ...
