"Proud" is the debut solo single by M People singer Heather Small, released on 8 May 2000. It was co-written with and produced by Peter-John Vettese, and is the title track of her debut album ''Proud''. The song peaked at number 16 on the UK Singles Chart. In popular culture In 2000, the song was used in the closing montage of the BBC's coverage of the 2000 Summer Olympics. Five years later, it was adopted as the official theme for the London 2012 Olympic bid, and was featured in a widely seen promotional video for the bid. Re-released in honour of this, and due to the fact a new M People greatest hits titled '' Ultimate Collection'', which also included two of Small's solo songs, was released the same year, the song returned to the UK Singles Chart peaking at number 33 and remaining in the Top 75 for two more weeks. ''Proud: An Urban Pacific Streetsoul Compilation'' is a 1994 New Zealand hip hop and R&B compilation album. It was released in New Zealand by Second Nature Records and in Australia by Volition Records, and later rereleased in New Zealand by Huh! Records in 2000. ''Proud'' has been described as "one of the most important NZ releases in the past decades" by New Zealand music industry figure Simon Grigg. Background The album had its origins with the work of record producer Alan Jansson. It is a single from Paper Route Empire's compilation album ''Long Live Young Dolph'' (2022). Produced by BandPlay, the song sees Glock rapping about his grief over the death of rapper Young Dolph. Background and composition Young Dolph, a cousin and mentor of Key Glock, was shot and killed in November 2021. The song finds Glock reflecting on it. Over trap production with piano keys, he opens with Dolph's signature ad-lib "ayyeee" and raps, "I lost my dog, I lost my mind, no lie, I'm really lost inside / I can get it back in blood, but still, I can't get back the time".
