The Prime Minister is formally appointed by the President of Moldova and exercises executive power along with the cabinet, subject to parliamentary support. The Agrarian Party of Moldova ( ro, Partidul Agrar din Moldova, PAM), formerly the Democratic Agrarian Party of Moldova (''Partidul Democrat Agrar din Moldova'', PDAM), is a Moldovan political party that was prominent from 1991 to 1998. Governing for most of this period, the party represented a large centrist multi-ethnic bloc led by former collective farm chairmen and village mayors. The Popular Front of Moldova ( ro, Frontul Popular din Moldova) was a political movement in the Moldavian SSR, one of the 15 union republics of the former Soviet Union, and in the newly independent Moldova, Republic of Moldova. Formally, the Front existed from 1989 to 1992. It was the successor to the ''Democratic Movement of Moldova'' (''Mișcarea Democratică din Moldova''; 1988–89), and was succeeded by the ''Christian Democratic Popular Front'' (''Frontul Popular Creștin Democrat''; 1992–99) and ultimately by the Christian-Democratic People's Party (Moldova), Christian-Democratic People's Party (''Partidul Popular Creștin Democrat''; since 1999). Ivan Petrovich Calin (russian: Иван Петрович Калин; 10 March 1935 – 2 January 2012) was a Soviet and Moldavian agronomist-scholar, political scientist, diplomat and politician. Biography Calin was born in the small village of Plot in Rîbnița District, then in Moldavian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic. Calin was President of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Moldavian SSR from 10 April 1980 to 24 December 1985. Following this he became prime minister of the Moldavian SSR until 10 January 1990. He was elected as member of the Parliament of Moldova in the 1998 election, 2005 election, April 2009 election and July 2009 election. Semion Grossu (born 18 March 1934, Satul Nou) is a Moldovan politician and businessman. Biography Grossu was born on 18 March 1934 in the commune of Satu-Nou, Cetatea Albă County, Kingdom of Romania (nowadays Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi Raion, Ukraine). In 1961, he joined the Communist Party of Moldavia. Grossu was the prime minister of the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic (1 August 1976 – 30 December 1980) and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Moldovan SSR (1 September 1976 – 31 December 1980). Gherasim Rudi (4 March 1907 in Sărăţei – 26 June 1982 in Chișinău) also Russified as Gerasim Yakovlevich Rud () was a Moldavian SSR politician and member of the Moldovan resistance during World War II. Nicolae Coval (19 December 1904 – 15 January 1970) was a Soviet and Moldavian politician. Biography Nicolae Coval was born in the city of Camenca, Russian Empire. After he became a member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union since 1939, in the period 1940–1945, he served as the People's Commissar for Agriculture of the MSSR. At Congresses I - IV, X - XII of the Communist Party of the MSSR was elected as member of the Central Committee. He also served as deputy to the Supreme Soviet of the USSR (in Legislative 1, 2, 6 and 7) and deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR (in the 1-3 legislatures).
