World XV
A World XV is a rugby union team organised on an unofficial, ''ad hoc'' basis and typically composed of invited players from various countries. Several World XVs have been arranged by various bodies, often to take part in celebration and testimonial games, usually against national teams, but these are not considered test matches by most nations. History Argentina In 1980 and 1983, Argentina, played World XVs. The first match was played at Ferrocarril Oeste Stadium, Buenos Aires. Frik Du Preez
Frederik Christoffel Hendrik "Frik" du Preez (born 28 November 1935) is a former South African rugby union player who represented Northern Transvaal and the Springboks. He was born on a farm near Rustenburg and went to school at Parys High School in Parys (Orange Free State). Du Preez mostly played in the flank or lock positions. Du Preez made his test debut for the Springboks on 7 January 1961 in the flank position against England at Twickenham. He played his last test on 7 August 1971 at the age of 35 as a lock against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Bedford Blues
Bedford Blues are a rugby union club in the town of Bedford, England, currently playing in The RFU Championship. Bedford is one of the few towns in England where the rugby club is better supported than the football team. The Blues are a semi-pro team, with a mix of experienced and young players. The Blues are coached by Mike Rayer. History Foundation and 19th century Bedford RUFC was founded in 1886 after an amalgamation between Bedford Rovers (1876) and Bedford Swifts (1882). Both parent clubs had close connections with Bedford School and Bedford Modern School, and both had fixtures with the leading teams of the period. Jeremy Janion
Jeremy Paul Aubrey George Janion (born ) was a rugby union international wing who represented England in twelve matches between 1971 and 1975. Janion was educated at St. Edmund's College, Ware. He played for Saffron Walden, Bedford and London Counties before beginning his test career with an appearance for England U-25s against Fiji in 1970. Harlequin (; it, Arlecchino ; lmo, Arlechin, Bergamasque pronunciation ) is the best-known of the ''zanni'' or comic servant characters from the Italian ''commedia dell'arte'', associated with the city of Bergamo. Bob Hiller
Robert Hiller (born 14 October 1942) is a former England international rugby union player. Hiller was England's first choice fullback between 1968 and 1972. He made his England debut against Wales at Twickenham on 20 January 1968 and won the last of his 19 caps against Ireland at Twickenham on 12 February 1972. He captained England in seven internationals and scored 138 points, an England record at the time of his retirement which has subsequently been beaten. Hiller fell out with the rugby authorities on numerous occasions. He was dropped three times: in 1970 against France, even though he had been appointed captain at the start of the season, and England were thrashed, and he was immediately reinstated; in 1971 when he was left out against Wales; and in 1972 when he had already decided to retire at the end of the season. Ian McCallum (psychiatrist)
Ian McCallum (born 1944) is a former rugby union player. From 1970 to 1974, he played 11 matches as fullback for the Springboks, the South African national rugby union team. After his playing career, he became a psychiatrist, author and wilderness guide, and co-founder of the Wilderness Leadership School in the Western Cape, South Africa. Rugby career McCallum played provincial rugby for Western Province from 1968 until 1972. He then moved to Natal and though he never played for Natal, he was selected for South Africa during the 1974 season. McCallum's first test for the Springboks was in 1970 against the New Zealand at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria. He played in all four tests in the 1970 series against the touring All Blacks. Christian Carrère (born 27 July 1943 in Tarbes), is a former French rugby union player. He played as a flanker. Club career He played for Stadoceste Tarbais and for RC Toulonnais, from 1964/65 to 1977/78. He reached the French championship finals in 1968 and 1971 and won the Challenge Yves du Manoir in 1970. International career He had 28 caps for France, between 1966 and 1971, and became at the time the youngest team captain, a position he held 18 times. He played his first game on 27 November 1966 against Romania, in Bucharest, in a 9–3 win, and his last on 27 May 1971 against Wales, in Colombes, in a 9–5 loss. He scored 4 tries, 12 points on aggregate, with the team. Élie Cester
Élie Cester (27 July 1942 - 3 January 2017) was a French rugby union player who played at lock for the France national rugby union team. Early life and career Élie Cester was born on July 27, 1942, in L'Isle-Jourdain, France. Cester earned his first cap for the France national rugby union team on January 15, 1966. He made a total of 35 official appearances for the French national team between 1966 and 1974. He captained the team on three occasions. Roques was part of the French national team that won the Five Nations Championship in 1967, 1968, 1970 (tied with Wales) and 1973. Death Cester died at the age of 74 in Bourg-les-Valence, France, on January 3, 2017.
