Praia D'El Rey European Cup
The Praia d'El Rey European Cup was an annual professional golf tournament played at Praia d'El Rey, Portugal. It was played in 1997, 1998 and 1999 between teams of men representing the European Seniors Tour and ladies representing the Ladies European Tour. There was no handicap but the men and women played off different tees. The men won the first event 13–7 in 1997 and retained the cup in 1998 after a 10–10 tie. The ladies won the final event 11–9 in 1999. Tommy Horton and Marie-Laure de Lorenzi were the captains on each occasion. David Jones (golfer)
David Jones (born 22 June 1947) is a former European Tour golfer from Bangor, Northern Ireland. His best season was 1981, when he won the Irish PGA Championship and was joint third in the Carroll's Irish Open. He also won the 1989 Kenya Open and later played on the European Seniors Tour, winning the 1999 Jersey Seniors Open. Golf career Jones played regularly on the European Tour from the start of the tour in 1972. He had limited success, his best finish being tied for third in the 1981 Carroll's Irish Open. Played at Portmarnock Golf Club, the event was won by Sam Torrance who finished five strokes clear of Nick Faldo with Jones and two other Irishmen, Jimmy Heggarty and Des Smyth, a further shot behind. Lora Diane Fairclough (born 26 January 1970) is an English professional golfer. She was born in Chorley, Lancashire and turned professional in January 1991. Dame Laura Jane Davies, (born 5 October 1963) is an English female professional golfer. She has achieved the status of her nation's most accomplished female golfer of modern times, being the first non-American to finish at the top of the LPGA money list as well as winning the Ladies European Tour (LET) Order of Merit a record seven times: in 1985, 1986, 1992, 1996, 1999, 2004 and 2006. Brian Waites
Brian J. Waites (born 1 March 1940) is an English professional golfer. Although he turned professional in 1957, he played little top-level golf for the next 20 years, but then has considerable success, winning twice on the European Tour, five times on the Safari Circuit and playing in the 1983 Ryder Cup. After reaching 50 he had further success as a senior, winning the PGA Seniors Championship twice, and winning four times on the European Senior Tour. Bobby Verwey
Frank Robert Verwey (born 21 January 1941) is a South African professional golfer. Verwey was born in Johannesburg and is the son of former South African PGA champion Jock Verwey. He is also the brother-in-law of South African golf legend Gary Player, who was married to his sister, Vivienne, deceased 2021. Verwey won the 1962 German Open and the 1965 Almaden Open Invitational on the PGA Tour. He was a member of the European Tour from 1978 to 1980. Noel Ratcliffe
Noel Anthony Ratcliffe (born 17 January 1945) is an Australian professional golfer. Ratcliffe turned to golf exceptionally late for a future professional, and didn't own a set of clubs until he was twenty-one. He studied pharmacy and worked for an insurance company and in public service before turning professional in 1974. Like many Australian golfers of his era, he divided his time between the PGA Tour of Australia and the European Tour.
