Al Posen
Alvah Posen (October 2, 1894 - June 10, 1960) was an American cartoonist on several comic strips, but he is best known for his 1933-1960 comic strip ''Sweeney & Son'' and as co-producer of the now-lost Marx Brothers film, ''Humor Risk'' (1921). Early life Born in New York City, Posen served in the Army during World War I and worked for a film advertising agency when the war ended. He then travelled in the Orient as a member of a geological and mining expedition, spending a year in Siam and Yunan. Comic strips In 1922, with no formal training in art, Posen created the rhyming daily comic strip, ''Them Days Are Gone Forever'' (aka ''Them Days Is Gone Forever''). Distributed by United Features Syndicate, it was published in 1000 newspapers within a year, and continued until April 4, 1925. Adam Simon Posen (born 1966) is an American economist and President of the Peterson Institute for International Economics. He became President of the Peterson Institute on January 1, 2013, having first joined PIIE in July 1997. Life and career Posen was born in Brookline, Massachusetts. He is Jewish. He received a PhD in Political Economy and Government from Harvard University, where he was a National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Fellow, after graduating from Harvard College in 1988. Barry Ross Posen (born July 13, 1952) is Ford International Professor of Political Science at MIT and the director of MIT's Security Studies Program. An expert in the field of security studies, he currently serves on the editorial boards of the journals ''International Security'' and ''Security Studies'' and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and served as a study group member for the Hart-Rudman Commission. Posen received his B.A. from Occidental College in 1974 and his M.A. and PhD, under Kenneth Waltz, from the University of California, Berkeley in 1976 and 1981 respectively. Louis Posen (born 1971) is an American, Los-Angeles-based, record producer and the founder of both Hopeless Records and Sub City Records. Posen is known as the “Paul Newman of punk rock” for his philanthropic efforts. Early life Born in 1971, Louis Posen grew up in Los Angeles, California, United States. At age 15 he developed a passion for punk rock music after attending a concert by X at the Reseda Country Club. As a child and teenager, he also had a love for film, and he enrolled at California State University, Northridge as a film studies major, hoping to eventually become a filmmaker. Mika Posen is a Canadian violinist and music instructor based in Ottawa. She is known for collaborating and performing with acts including Timber Timbre, Agnes Obel, and Forest City Lovers and performs as a solo artist under the name Merganzer. Stephen Posen (born 1939) is an American painter and photographer who works in both New York City and Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Early life Posen studied painting at Washington University, where he earned his BFA in 1962. Posen continued on to graduate studies at Yale University earning his MFA in 1964. At Yale, Posen was a part of a great confluence of talents including Brice Marden, Richard Serra, Nancy Graves and Chuck Close. After graduate school, Posen spent two years in Italy on a Fulbright Fellowship. Career In 1966, Posen moved to New York City and became an integral part of the Soho art scene of the 1960s and 1970s, well-known for his Photorealism work. Zachary E. Posen (; born October 24, 1980) is an American fashion designer. Early life Posen was born and raised in a Jewish family in New York City, residing in the SoHo neighborhood of lower Manhattan. He is the son of Susan (née Orzack), a corporate lawyer, and Stephen Arnold Posen, an artist. He has family roots in Shklow, Belarus, and Żychlin, Poland. His interest in fashion design started early, and as a child he would steal yarmulkes from his grandparents' synagogue to make ball dresses for dolls. He attended Saint Ann's School, a private school in Brooklyn and in his sophomore year interned with fashion designer Nicole Miller. As a teen, he also won a Scholastic Art and Writing Award.
