Guggenheim Fellowships
Guggenheim Fellowships are grants that have been awarded annually since by the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation to those "who have demonstrated exceptional capacity for productive scholarship or exceptional creative ability in the arts." Each year, the foundation issues awards in each of two separate competitions: * One open to citizens and permanent residents of the United States and Canada. * The other to citizens and permanent residents of Latin America and the Caribbean. The Latin America and Caribbean competition is currently suspended "while we examine the workings and efficacy of the program. The U.S. and Canadian competition is unaffected by this suspension." The performing arts are excluded, although composers, film directors, and choreographers are eligible. The fellowships are not open to students, only to "advanced professionals in mid-career" such as published authors. Sally Belfrage
Sally Belfrage (October 4, 1936 – March 14, 1994) was a United States-born British-based 20th century non-fiction writer and international journalist. Her writing covered turmoils in Northern Ireland, the American Civil Rights Movement and her own memoirs about her life. According to her obituary in ''The New York Times'', she was 'an intelligent and humorous journalist and critic who ardently searched for the truth'. Sarah Jean Broadie (née Waterlow; 3 November 1941 – 8 August 2021) was a British philosopher, a Professor of Moral Philosophy and Wardlaw Professor at the University of St Andrews. Broadie specialised in ancient philosophy, with a particular emphasis on Aristotle and Plato. Her work engages with metaphysics and both ancient and contemporary ethics. She has achieved numerous honours throughout her career as an academic philosopher. Broadie studied Greats at Somerville College, Oxford, graduating in 1960. Steven J. Brams (born November 28, 1940 in Concord, New Hampshire) is an American game theory, game theorist and political scientist at the New York University Department of Politics. Brams is best known for using the techniques of game theory, public choice theory, and social choice theory to analyze voting systems and fair division. He is one of the independent discoverers of approval voting, as well as extensions of approval voting to multiple-winner elections to give proportional representation of different interests. Brams was a co-discoverer, with Alan D. Taylor, Alan Taylor, of the first envy-free cake-cutting solution for ''n'' people. Alfredo Bosi (26 August 1936 – 7 April 2021) was a Brazilian historian, literary critic, and professor. He was a member of the Academia Brasileira de Letras (''Brazilian Academy of Letters''), occupying Chair number 12. One of his most famous books is ''História Concisa da Literatura Brasileira'' (''Brief History of Brazilian Literature''), widely used in Brazilian universities in literature courses. Ann Merchant Boesgaard
Ann Merchant Boesgaard is an astronomer and professor who received the American Astronomical Society's highest award, the Henry Norris Russell Lectureship in 2019. The minor planet 7804 Boesgaard is named after her, the name having been proposed by Dutch astronomers C.J. van Houten and Ingrid van Houten-Groeneveld.
