Poonthottam Achhan Nambudiri
Poonthottam Achhan Nambudiri (also known as Poonthottam Parameshwaran Nambudiri) (1821-1865) was a poet of the Venmani School of Malayalam Literature. Nambudiri was born in 1821 in Killikkurussimangalam, Palakkad district. He was a close friend and associate of Venmani Achhan Nambudiripad from Kodungalloor. Nambudiri was a talented poet whose works include ''Ambareesha Charitham'' (Ottan Thullal), ''Kaalakeya Vadham'' (Seethankan Thullal), ''Syamanthakam'' (Aattakkathha) and a few ''Muktakams''. His son Damodaran Nambudiri was also a poet and was known as Poonthottam Mahan Nambudiri. Venmani School
The Venmani School of poets were involved in a movement in Malayalam Literature also known as the Venmani Movement. The style of poetry was pioneered by members of the Venmani Illam of Kodungalloor in the 19th century. Main members The major poets of the Venmani school were Venmani Achhan Nambudiripad (1817-1891), Venmani Mahan Nambudiripad (1844-1893), Poonthottam Achhan Nambudiri (1821-1865), Poonthottam Mahan Nambudiri (1857-1896) and the members of the Kodungallur Kovilakam (Royal Family) such as Kodungallur Kunjikkuttan Thampuran. The style of these poets became quite popular for a while and influenced even others who were not members of the group like Velutheri Kesavan Vaidyar (1839-1897) and Perunlli Krishnan Vaidyan (1863-1894). Malayalam Literature
Malayalam, the lingua franca of the Indian state of Kerala and the union territories of Lakshadweep and Puduchery, is one of the six Classical languages of India. Malayalam literature comprises those literary texts written in Malayalam, a South-Dravidian language spoken in the Indian state of Kerala. Killikkurussimangalam
Killikkurussimangalam (also known as Lakkidi) is a village around 8 km from nearby town Ottappalam in Palakkad district of Kerala, south India. The river Nila ( Bharatapuzha) flows through the southern border of Lakkidi. Etymology The village got its name from the famous Lord Shiva temple- Sri Killikkurussi Mahadeva Kshetram situated in the village. The temple is very old and legends say it has been founded by the sage ''Sree Suka Brahma Hrishi''. Palakkad (), formerly known as Palghat, historically known as Palakkattussery is a city and municipality in the Indian state of Kerala. It is the administrative headquarters of the Palakkad District. Venmani Achhan Nambudiripad
Venmani Parameshwaran Nambudiripad (1817-1890), popularly known as Venmani Achhan Nambudiripad was a famous poet of Malayalam. He was born in the Venmani Illam, a family which was involved in the Venmani School of Malayalam Literature. He was the nephew of Venmani Vishnu Nambudiripad, another well-known poet of the era. Achhan Nambudiripad evolved a simple poetic style, which the common people could understand and appreciate. He was married to Sreedevi from the Polpaya Mana and also to Kunjippilla Thampuratti, a princess from the Kodungalloor Royal family. Kodungalloor
Kodungallur (; also Cranganore, Portuguese: Cranganor; formerly known as Mahodayapuram, Shingly, Vanchi, Muchiri, Muyirikkode, and Muziris) is a historically significant town situated on the banks of river Periyar on the Malabar Coast in Thrissur district of Kerala, India. Ottan Thullal
Ottan Thullal (or ''Ottamthullal'', Malayalam: ഓട്ടൻ തുള്ളൽ) is a recite-and-dance art-form of Kerala, India. It was introduced in the eighteenth century by Kunchan Nambiar, one of the Malayalam triumvirate poets, Prachina Kavithrayam (three famous Malayalam-language poets). The folksy performance, often laced with humour intended at criticism of society, is accompanied by a mridangam (a barrel-shaped double-headed drum) and/or the handy idakka besides a pair of ilathalam cymbals.
