Poon Saan
Poon Saan is the second largest village on Christmas Island, an external territory of Australia. It is administrated as part of the island capital - Flying Fish Cove. Ethnic Chinese make up the majority of inhabitants. In Cantonese, Poon Saan (, Jyutping: ''bun3 saan1'') means "halfway up the hill". The architecture of Poon Saan reflects the Chinese heritage of the majority of residents in being Singapore style units, rather than the Western style common in Flying Fish Cove. The Java sparrow has become established on the island with populations near Poon Saan. Drumsite
Drumsite is a settlement on Christmas Island, Australia. Is located on the northeast coast, near the capital, Flying Fish Cove. The ethnic composition of the population is Chinese and European. In the area there are migration routes of red crabs that are protected. The Drumsite Village project, a new housing development, was approved by the Gillard administration amid concerns about the growing number of asylum seekers on the island, and is administered by a Queensland company. Flying Fish Cove
Flying Fish Cove ( zh, 飛魚灣, ms, Pantai Ikan Terbang) is the capital city and main settlement of Australia's Christmas Island. Although it was originally named after British survey-ship '' Flying-Fish'', many maps simply label it "The Settlement". It was the first British settlement on the island, established in 1888. About a third of the territory's total population of 1,600 lives in Flying Fish Cove, which lies near the north-eastern tip of the island. There is a small harbour which serves tourists with yachts. The Division of Lingiari is an Australian electoral division in the Northern Territory that covers the entirety of the territory outside of the Division of Solomon, which covers Darwin and surrounding areas. The division also includes the Christmas and Cocos (Keeling) Islands. Lingiari includes all of the Northern Territory's remote Indigenous communities, most of whom vote when visited by mobile polling teams during the election campaign. The Java sparrow (''Padda oryzivora''), also known as Java finch, Java rice sparrow or Java rice bird, is a small passerine bird. This estrildid finch is a resident breeding bird in Java, Bali and Bawean in Indonesia. It is a popular cage bird, and has been introduced into many other countries. Some taxonomists place this and the Timor sparrow in their own genus ''Padda''.
