Flying Fish Cove
Flying Fish Cove ( zh, 飛魚灣, ms, Pantai Ikan Terbang) is the capital city and main settlement of Australia's Christmas Island. Although it was originally named after British survey-ship '' Flying-Fish'', many maps simply label it "The Settlement". It was the first British settlement on the island, established in 1888. About a third of the territory's total population of 1,600 lives in Flying Fish Cove, which lies near the north-eastern tip of the island. There is a small harbour which serves tourists with yachts. The Shire of Christmas Island is a local government area of the Australian external territory of Christmas Island (; post code: 6798). The island is grouped with Western Australia but is administered by the Attorney-General's Department and an Administrator. Recreational diving or sport diving is diving for the purpose of leisure and enjoyment, usually when using scuba equipment. Administrator's House, Christmas Island
The Administrator's House is a heritage-listed former official residence and now museum located south-west of Flying Fish Cove in the Australian territory of Christmas Island. It was added to the Australian Commonwealth Heritage List on 22 June 2004. It is also known as Tai Jin House. The house served as the official residence for the Administrator of Christmas Island. Description The Administrator's House is a substantial, two storey residence, with a semi-detached service and servants wing, surrounded by a well developed garden. The residence is sited in a prominent location looking across Flying Fish Cove and can be seen from various vantage points on the higher terraces. Malay Kampong Group
Malay Kampong Group is a heritage-listed Malay precinct at Jalan Panyai, Flying Fish Cove in the Australian territory of Christmas Island. It was added to the Australian Commonwealth Heritage List on 22 June 2004. Description The Malay Kampong Group comprises the Malay Club, mosque, Malay Quarters and the adjacent Malay School, the sheep pens to the north of the Malay Club, and the original Malay Cemetery located south-west of the Mosque. Chinese labourers provided most of the manual labour during the early phase of mining on Christmas Island, although later Singapore and Malaya became increasingly important sources of indentured labourers. Malays, from both Cocos-Keeling and Malaya, currently comprise approximately one fifth of the Island's population. The Division of Lingiari is an Australian electoral division in the Northern Territory that covers the entirety of the territory outside of the Division of Solomon, which covers Darwin and surrounding areas.
