Polla, Italy
Polla is a town and ''comune'' of the province of Salerno in the Campania region of south-west Italy. In 2011 its population was 5,327. History The area in which the town is located was settled since prehistoric times, as evidenced by finds of bones and ceramic in a nearby cave. During the Ancient Roman domination it was built a forum in today's quarter of San Pietro. Geography Polla is in the north of the Vallo di Diano, close to the Alburni mountain range and is crossed by the Tanagro river. It borders with the municipalities of Atena Lucana, Auletta, Brienza ( PZ), Caggiano, Corleto Monforte, Pertosa, Sant'Angelo Le Fratte (PZ) and Sant'Arsenio. Tanagro
The Tanagro (''Tanàgro'') or Negro is a river of the Province of Salerno, southwestern Italy. It rises in the Vallo di Diano and is a tributary of the Sele River. In ancient times it was known as ''Tanager''. Caggiano is a town and comune in the province of Salerno in the Campania region of south-western Italy. Cilentan Dialect
The Cilentan dialect (in it, Cilentano, in Cilentan: or ) is a Neapolitan dialect spoken in the area of Cilento, located in the southern part of the Province of Salerno, Campania, Italy. Influences It has been influenced, especially in the Vallo di Diano and in central Cilento, by the Basilicata language as spoken in Potenza and part of its Province of Potenza. In the towns of northern Cilento close to the urban area of Salerno (for example Agropoli, Capaccio and Paestum), the language is mainly influenced by Neapolitan, more specifically by the Salernitan dialect. In the southern corner of Cilento, the language is largely influenced by Sicilian, particularly the Calabrian variety of Sicilian. Nicola Peccheneda
Nicola Peccheneda (1725, Polla – 4 November 1804) was an Italian painter of Campania and Basilicata in the second half of the 18th century. He initially trained in Naples, likely in the studio of Francesco de Mura. He adopted the reigning style of Francesco Solimena. While he came from a family including professionals (brother was a lawyer and judge in Naples); he moved back to his native Polla, and despite painting in the region, lived until he died. Costantino Catena (born 6 April 1969) is an Italian classical pianist.
