Poliça (often stylised in all caps) is an American pop band from Minneapolis, Minnesota, formed in 2011. The band consists of Channy Leaneagh (vocals, synth), Chris Bierden (bass), Drew Christopherson (drums) and Ben Ivascu (drums), with Ryan Olson joining the band in a studio context as its producer. To date, the band has released six studio albums, '' Give You the Ghost'' (2012), '' Shulamith'' (2013), and '' United Crushers'' (2016) through Mom + Pop Music; ''Music For the Long Emergency'' (2018) through Transgressive Records, Transgressive; ''When We Stay Alive'' (2020) and ''Madness'' (2022) through Memphis Industries. ''Shulamith'' is the second studio album by American indie pop band Poliça, released on October 18, 2013 by Mom + Pop Music. Background and development The album title refers to the radical feminist Shulamith Firestone whose book ''The Dialectic of Sex'' was the main inspiration to singer and lyricist Channy Leaneagh after the recording of the album. Describing Firestone as "This woman to me is like my pop star. I want to try and be more like her," Leaneagh insisted that the name wasn't chosen "because I wanted to make a statement about feminism." At the same time, themes explored in the album dovetail with feminist concerns such as the conflict of desire and frustration that attend living up to cultural ideals as well as the pitfalls of materialism and perfectionism. ''Give You the Ghost'' is the first studio album by American indie pop band Poliça. It was released by Totally Gross National Product on February 14, 2012. It was re-released by Mom + Pop Music together with a remix EP on August 14, 2012. It peaked at number 15 on the ''Billboard'' Heatseekers Albums chart. Production "Wandering Star" and "Lay Your Cards Out" feature vocals by Mike Noyce from Bon Iver. On the use of vocal effects, Leaneagh explained that "I'm not using Autotune to correct my voice, I'm using it to distort it, to catch the notes in between the melody line". Justin DeYarmond Edison Vernon (born April 30, 1981) is an American singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist. He is best known as the primary songwriter and frontman of indie folk band Bon Iver. Mom + Pop Music is a New York City-based independent record label whose current roster includes Courtney Barnett, Madeon, Tom Morello, Porter Robinson, Tycho, Tash Sultana, Sunflower Bean, Beach Bunny, Caamp, Del Water Gap and more. Digitata is an electronic rock band from Minneapolis, Minnesota. The band has released three albums on independent record label Totally Gross National Product.
