Plettenberg
Plettenberg (; Westphalian: ''Plettmert'') is a town in the Märkischer Kreis, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Geography Plettenberg is located to the west of the Sauerland hills. The highest elevation of the town area is in the ''Ebbegebirge'' with 663 m above sea level, the lowest elevation with 194 m near Teindeln. The town is spread out between the four valleys of the rivers Lenne, Else, and Grüne. House Of Plettenberg
The House of Plettenberg is the name of the Westphalian noble family of the ''Uradel''. It dates back at least to 1187, when ''Heidolphus de Plettenbrath'' was mentioned in a document by Philip I (Archbishop of Cologne). Plettenberg-Wittem branch that ruled immediate Lodships of Meitingen and Sulmingen lost its sovereignty and became mediatised to Württemberg in 1806. This line of the family went extinct in 1813. Carl Schmitt (; 11 July 1888 – 7 April 1985) was a German jurist, political theorist, and prominent member of the Nazi Party. Max Otte (born Matthias Otte, October 7, 1964) is an economist, publicist and political activist who holds German and U.S. citizenship. Otte, who has held professorships in Worms, Graz and Erfurt, is currently a fund manager. He has written several bestsellers, mainly on financial policy topics. From June 2018 to January 2021, Otte was chairman of the board of trustees of the AfD-affiliated Desiderius-Erasmus-Foundation. Eike Wilm Schulte
Eike Wilm Schulte (born 13 October 1939) is a German operatic baritone. A member of the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden, from 1988 the Bayerische Staatsoper, he made an international career, singing more than 100 parts at major opera houses such as the Metropolitan Opera, and at festivals including the Bayreuth Festival. He participated in several premieres of contemporary opera. Career Schulte was born in Plettenberg, Westphalia. He studied voice at the Musikhochschule Köln, with Josef Metternich among others. Michael Bartels
Michael Bartels (born 8 March 1968) is a German professional racing driver. He is a multiple FIA GT champion and former Grand Prix driver who attempted to qualify for four races in with Lotus. Career Bartels was the 1985 German karting champion and the 1986 German Formula Ford 1600 champion. He competed in the German Formula Three Championship in 1988 and 1989, before stepping up to International Formula 3000 in 1990. Bartels filled in at Lotus for Johnny Herbert, who had commitments in Japanese Formula 3000, at four Grands Prix during the Formula One season, but failed to qualify at all four races. Bartels continued in F3000, finishing 4th in 1992, before switching to the DTM in 1994, where he continued to race until the series ended at the end of 1996. Else (Lenne)
Else is a 12.9 km river in Märkischer Kreis, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is a left tributary of the Lenne. The Else rises about 800m north of Herscheid to an altitude of 414m above sea level. As it flows to the east, the stream reaches the area of the Plettenberg-Hüinghausen airfield and passes the village of Hüinghausen on its southern edge. It then proceeds through Plettenberg, before joining up with the Lenne. There is a height difference of 214m between the source and the mouth, which corresponds to a mean gradient of 16.6%. The Märkischer Kreis is a district ('' Kreis'') in central North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Neighbouring districts are Unna, Soest, Hochsauerland, Olpe, Oberbergischer Kreis, Ennepe-Ruhr, and the city of Hagen. History The district was created in 1975 as part of the reorganization of North Rhine-Westphalian districts. The former districts of Lüdenscheid and Iserlohn, together with the City of Iserlohn, previously an urban district, plus the area around Balve (previously part of Arnsberg District) were amalgamated to form the new district. Lüdenscheid District itself had been created just a few years earlier, in 1968, when the city of Lüdenscheid was merged with Altena District (originally created in 1753). Sauerland
The Sauerland () is a rural, hilly area spreading across most of the south-eastern part of North Rhine-Westphalia, in parts heavily forested and, apart from the major valleys, sparsely inhabited. Rolf Steininger (August 2, 1942, Plettenberg) is a German historian and former university professor for contemporary history. Steininger studied English language and literature and history at the universities of University of Marburg, Marburg, University of Göttingen, Göttingen, Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, Munich, Lancaster University, Lancaster and Cardiff University, Cardiff.
