Eike Wilm Schulte
Eike Wilm Schulte (born 13 October 1939) is a German operatic baritone. A member of the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden, from 1988 the Bayerische Staatsoper, he made an international career, singing more than 100 parts at major opera houses such as the Metropolitan Opera, and at festivals including the Bayreuth Festival. He participated in several premieres of contemporary opera. Career Schulte was born in Plettenberg, Westphalia. He studied voice at the Musikhochschule Köln, with Josef Metternich among others. He made his debut on stage at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in 1966 as ''Sid'' in Benjamin Britten's ''Albert Herring''. From 1969, Schulte was a member of the Theater Bielefeld, where he appeared as Papageno in Mozart's ''Die Zauberflöte'', as Germont in ''La Traviata'' and in the leading part Alfred Ill in Gottfried von Einem's ''Der Besuch der alten Dame'', opposite Martha Mödl in the title role. Plettenberg (; Westphalian: ''Plettmert'') is a town in the Märkischer Kreis, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Geography Plettenberg is located to the west of the Sauerland hills. Così Fan Tutte
(''All Women Do It, or The School for Lovers''), K. 588, is an opera buffa in two acts by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. It was first performed on 26 January 1790 at the Burgtheater in Vienna, Austria. The libretto was written by Lorenzo Da Ponte who also wrote ''Le nozze di Figaro'' and ''Don Giovanni''. Although it is commonly held that was written and composed at the suggestion of the Emperor Joseph II, recent research does not support this idea. There is evidence that Mozart's contemporary Antonio Salieri tried to set the libretto but left it unfinished. In 1994, John Rice uncovered two terzetti by Salieri in the Austrian National Library. The short title, ''Così fan tutte'', literally means "So do they all", using the feminine plural (''tutte'') to indicate women. It is usually translated into English as "Women are like that". ''Tannhäuser'' (; full title , "Tannhäuser and the Minnesängers' Contest at Wartburg") is an 1845 opera in three acts, with music and text by Richard Wagner ( WWV 70 in the catalogue of the composer's works). It is based on two German legends: Tannhäuser, the mythologized medieval German Minnesänger and poet, and the tale of the Wartburg Song Contest. The story centres on the struggle between sacred and profane love, as well as redemption through love, a theme running through most of Wagner's work. Teatro La Fenice (, "The Phoenix") is an opera house in Venice, Italy. It is one of "the most famous and renowned landmarks in the history of Italian theatre" and in the history of opera as a whole. Especially in the 19th century, La Fenice became the site of many famous operatic premieres at which the works of several of the four major bel canto era composers – Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti, Verdi – were performed. Its name reflects its role in permitting an opera company to "rise from the ashes" despite losing the use of three theatres to fire, the first in 1774 after the city's leading house was destroyed and rebuilt but not opened until 1792; the second fire came in 1836, but rebuilding was completed within a year. However, the third fire was the result of arson. It destroyed the house in 1996 leaving only the exterior walls, but it was rebuilt and re-opened in November 2004. Volker David Kirchner
Volker David Kirchner (25 June 1942 – 4 February 2020) was a German composer and violist. After studies of violin and composition at the Peter Cornelius Conservatory, the Hochschule für Musik Köln and the Hochschule für Musik Detmold, he worked for decades as a violist in the Radio-Sinfonie-Orchester Frankfurt. He was simultaneously the violist in the Kehr Trio founded by his violin teacher Günter Kehr, and a composer of incidental music at the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden. He was known for his operas which were commissioned by major German opera houses. Nadine Secunde
Nadine Secunde (born 21 December 1953) is an American operatic soprano. She studied and performed in Germany, singing at the Bayreuth Festival the leading parts of Elsa in ''Lohengrin'' and Sieglinde in ''Die Walküre'', and made an international career. A specialist for the works of Wagner and Richard Strauss, she has also performed contemporary operas. Career Secunde was born in Independence near Cleveland, Ohio. She studied piano and voice at the Oberlin Conservatory and Indiana University with Margaret Harshaw. She studied from 1979 on a Fulbright scholarship at the Musikhochschule Stuttgart. ''Mosè in Egitto'' (; "''Moses in Egypt''") is a three-act opera written by Gioachino Rossini to an Italian libretto by Andrea Leone Tottola, which was based on a 1760 play by Francesco Ringhieri, ''L'Osiride''. It premièred on 5 March 1818 at the recently reconstructed Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Italy. In 1827 Rossini revised and greatly enlarged the work to a four-act French libretto: ''Moïse et Pharaon, ou Le passage de la Mer Rouge'' (; "''Moses and Pharaoh, or The Crossing of the Red Sea''"). Gail Gilmore (born Gail Gerber, October 4, 1937 – March 2, 2014) was a Canadian television and film actress and ballet dancer. She was from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Elizabeth Parcells (; December 28, 1951 in Detroit, Michigan – December 29, 2005 in Detroit, Michigan) was an American coloratura soprano. In the United States, she sang at the Michigan Opera Theater, the Boston Lyric Opera and The Washington (D.C.) Opera, among others. She began voice lessons at age 16 and went on to study at the Interlochen Arts Academy. Hermin Esser (1 April 1928 – 17 April 2009) was a German operatic tenor who focused on roles by Richard Wagner, which he performed at the Bayreuth Festival and internationally. Career Born in Rheydt to a musical family, Esser was first a graphic designer and then began to study architecture. He studied voice at the Robert-Schumann-Konservatorium in Düsseldorf with Franziska Martienssen-Lohmann. He made his debut at the Stadttheater Krefeld in 1954 and moved via Gelsenkirchen as a lyrical tenor to the Komische Oper Berlin in 1957, where he worked with Walter Felsenstein. When the Berlin Wall was built, he moved to the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden.
