Pain is a distressing feeling often caused by intense or damaging stimuli. Desires are states of mind that are expressed by terms like "wanting", "wishing", "longing" or "craving". A great variety of features is commonly associated with desires. They are seen as propositional attitudes towards conceivable states of affairs. Stanley Alan Corngold (born 1934) is an American literary scholar. He is an emeritus professor of German and comparative literature at Princeton University.
