Planet Jarre
''Planet Jarre: 50 Years of Music'' is a compilation album by French electronic musician and composer Jean-Michel Jarre, released on 14 September 2018 to commemorate Jarre's 50 years in the music business. A total of forty-one tracks were chosen by Jarre himself for inclusion, among them two new songs ("Herbalizer" and "Coachella Opening"). Jarre remastered, and in some cases "retouched", the tracks himself. During the process, he decided that he had pursued four quite different styles of composition and therefore divided the project into four "universes" - "Soundscapes", "Themes", "Sequences" and "Explorations and Early Works". Some tracks were released in 5.1 surround sound. Jean-Michel Jarre
Jean-Michel André Jarre (; born 24 August 1948) is a French composer, performer and record producer. He is a pioneer in the electronic, ambient and new-age genres, and is known for organising outdoor spectacles featuring his music, accompanied by vast laser displays, large projections and fireworks. Jarre was raised in Lyon by his mother and grandparents and trained on the piano. From an early age, he was introduced to a variety of art forms, including street performers, jazz musicians and the artist Pierre Soulages. But his musical style was perhaps most heavily influenced by Pierre Schaeffer, a pioneer of musique concrète at the Groupe de Recherches Musicales. His first mainstream success was the 1976 album ''Oxygène''. Recorded in a makeshift studio at his home, the album sold an estimated 18 million copies. ''Métamorphoses'' is the thirteenth studio album by French electronic musician and composer Jean-Michel Jarre, released by Sony Music in 1999, Epic Records on January 24, 2000 and by Disques Dreyfus on May 25, 2004 in the U.S. The album was followed by two singles: "C'est la Vie" and "Tout Est Bleu". Critical reception In Release Magazine, Niklas Forsberg wrote that "it is a musical flashback to a more enthusiastic and innovative Jean Michel Jarre" and added that "Jarre does it better when he's not influenced by anyone but himself." ''Essentials & Rarities'' (previously announced as ''Memories & Rarities'') is a compilation album by Jean-Michel Jarre, released in 2011. The double CD set consists of two distinctive CDs: ''Essentials'', which is a compilation of Jarre's most famous work, and ''Rarities'', which compiles tracks made before his ground-breaking album ''Oxygène''. Most of the tracks on ''Rarities'' had never been officially released on CD (apart from tracks from ''Les Granges Brûlées''). The ''Rarities'' CD includes a selection of tracks from ''Deserted Palace'', his first single " La Cage" and its B-side "Erosmachine", and the track "Happiness Is a Sad Song", which he composed in 1968 for "Les Fêtes de la Jeunesse" in Reims and is Jean-Michel Jarre's first musical release. Musique Pour Supermarché
''Musique pour Supermarché'' (English title: ''Music for Supermarkets'') is the sixth studio album by electronic musician and composer Jean-Michel Jarre. Only a single vinyl copy was ever pressed and distributed, and its master plates were deliberately destroyed following. However later Jarre albums such as ''Zoolook'' (1984) or '' Rendez-Vous'' (1986) sample/reuse several parts from ''Musique pour Supermarché''. An excerpt from "Musique pour Supermarché (Part 1)" was included on the 2018 compilation Planet Jarre. Composition and recording In 1983, Jarre was approached to create background music for a supermarket-themed art show called Orrimbe, to be held in Paris during June, 1983. Armin Jozef Jacobus Daniël van Buuren ( , ; born 25 December 1976) is a Dutch DJ and record producer from Leiden, South Holland. ''Oxygène'' (, en, Oxygen) is the third studio album by French electronic musician and composer Jean-Michel Jarre. It was first released in France in December 1976 by Disques Motors, and distributed internationally in 1977 by Polydor Records. Jarre recorded the album in a makeshift studio that he set up in his apartment in Paris, using a variety of analog and digital synthesizers, and other electronic instruments and effects. French sound engineer, Michel Geiss helped Jarre in the purchase, recording and programming of some instruments used on the album. His musical style was influenced by the musique concrète, developed by Pierre Schaeffer, who mentored Jarre and taught him how to create music from pre-recorded sounds and not from notes. Vincent John Martin (born 3 July 1960), known professionally as Vince Clarke, is an English synth-pop musician and songwriter. Clarke has been the main composer and musician of the band Erasure since its inception in 1985, and was previously the main songwriter of several groups, including Depeche Mode, Yazoo (band), Yazoo, and the Assembly. ''Les Concerts en Chine'' (, English title: ''The Concerts in China'') is a live album by Jean-Michel Jarre, recorded in 1981 and released in 1982 on Disques Dreyfus. It was recorded during Jarre's Concerts in China tour of Autumn 1981, which consisted of five Beijing and Shanghai concerts in China; this was the first time a Western pop artist performed in China after the Cultural Revolution. ''Zoolook'' is the seventh studio album by French electronic musician and composer Jean-Michel Jarre, released in November 1984 by Disques Dreyfus. Much of the music is built up from singing and speech in 25 different languages recorded and edited in the Fairlight CMI digital sampling synthesizer. The album spawned two singles: the title track and "Zoolookologie". Composition and recording ''Zoolook'' was greatly influenced by his former mentor Pierre Schaeffer and his musique concrète, taking samples from everyday life and voice human in 25 different languages from all over the world. Revolutions (Jean-Michel Jarre Album)
''Revolutions'' is the ninth studio album by electronic musician and composer Jean-Michel Jarre, first released in August 1988. The album reached number 2 in the UK charts, Jarre's best chart position since ''Oxygène''. The Destination Docklands concert in London coincided with the release of the album. Composition and recording The album was recorded and mixed at Croissy studio. The song "London Kid" was a collaboration with Shadows guitarist Hank Marvin. The title track contains reworked samples of an unpublished composition by Turk Kudsi Erguner, which Jarre had acquired from ethnologist Xavier Bellenger. Erguner took his case to court and won a modest indemnity. Jarre removed the flute part—the Ney—from new releases of the record and from live performances, the track was later retitled as "Revolution, Revolutions".
