Harrie Geelen
Harrie Geelen (born 10 January 1939, in Heerlen) is a Dutch illustrator, film director, animator, translator, writer and poet. In 2014, he was made a knight in the Order of the Dutch Lion ("Ridder in de orde van de Nederlandse Leeuw"). He studied Dutch in Amsterdam, where he met his wife Imme Dros, like himself a writer of Dutch children's literature. Geelen wrote several well known television children's programs and translated Disney movies into Dutch. He illustrated his own books and those of his wife Imme Dros, some books by Annie M. G. Schmidt and a book by Toon Tellegen. He published the novel "Het Nijlpaard Ellende" and short stories like "Ooms en Tantes, Tantes en Ooms". For the movie "Pinkeltje" he was the director, designer as well as the scriptwriter. Other work include feature films and a large TV series ("de Sommeltjes") with the use of simple computers. Aart Staartjes (1 March 1938 – 12 January 2020) was a Dutch actor, director, television presenter and documentary maker from Amsterdam. He was well known for his role on ''Sesamstraat'', the Dutch co-production of ''Sesame Street''. On this show, his character's name was ''Meneer Aart'' (Mr. Aart) and in this persona he authored a book called (Mr. Aart: Life and work of the man who does not want to be named a friend to children). Staartjes used to present the annual arrival of ''Sinterklaas'' in the Netherlands. Early life Aart Staartjes was born in Nieuwendam, a neighbourhood of Amsterdam-Noord. Louisa Johanna Theodora van Dort (born May 16, 1943 in Surabaya, Dutch East Indies) is a Dutch actress, comedian, singer, writer and artist of Indo (Eurasian) descent. On April 29, 1999, Queen Beatrix appointed her ''Knight of the Order of Orange-Nassau''. She has appeared on many children's television programs and is best known for her Indo (Dutch-Indonesian) character of Tante Lien in ''The Late Late Lien Show'' on Dutch prime time television. Her show was the only television programme ever to showcase Indo (Eurasian) culture and introduced many Indo artists and music to mainstream audiences in the Netherlands. After three seasons the television series ended in 1988, but her ''Tante Lien'' character is popular to this day and in 2007 she was awarded the Silver Medal of Merit for her contributions in this role from the Dutch State Secretary for Defence. Lex Goudsmit
Alexandre Joseph Goudsmit (;''Goudsmit'' in isolation: . 15 March 1913 in Brussels – 10 December 1999 in Amsterdam) was a Dutch-Belgian actor. Goudsmit's father, a diamond worker, was Jewish and his mother Roman Catholic. He became famous in 1966 for playing Tevye in ''Fiddler on the Roof'', which role he performed some 1100 times in the Netherlands and in London. He played many characters on Dutch television, among others in the popular youth series ''Q en Q'' (1974) and ''Thomas en Senior'' (1985–88). From 1984 to 1999 he played Grandpa Lex on ''Sesamstraat'', the Dutch version of Sesame Street. Emmy Lopes Dias (4 August 1919, in Hilversum – 28 March 2005, in Laren) was a Dutch actress and activist who performed on stage, radio, and television. She was a well-known advocate for the right to die. Biography Lopes Dias was born to a city councilmember for the Social Democratic Workers' Party (later renamed PvdA). She began her acting career shortly after World War II. She graduated cum laude from the Amsterdamse Toneelschool in 1949 and joined the Comedia, the predecessor of the Nederlandse Comedie. She was praised for her speech and began working in radio, performing in hundreds of radio plays and other radio shows. ''Pinkeltje'' (known in English as Fingerling) is a fictional character from the eponymous children's book series by the Dutch writer Dick Laan. Pinkeltje is a white-bearded gnome and wears a pointed hat and is as big as a pinky finger, hence its name, meaning "fingerling" (literally "little pinky") in Dutch. 29 books were published in a series between 1939 and 1977. The last four volumes appeared posthumously. A successful film was also released with the same title and based on the books. Book series The early stories focus mainly on Pinkeltje's adventures in the Grote Huis (Big House), inhabited by a father, a mother, a nameless boy and an unnamed girl (originally a boy and two girls).
