Emmy Lopes Dias
Emmy Lopes Dias (4 August 1919, in Hilversum – 28 March 2005, in Laren) was a Dutch actress and activist who performed on stage, radio, and television. She was a well-known advocate for the right to die. Biography Lopes Dias was born to a city councilmember for the Social Democratic Workers' Party (later renamed PvdA). She began her acting career shortly after World War II. She graduated cum laude from the Amsterdamse Toneelschool in 1949 and joined the Comedia, the predecessor of the Nederlandse Comedie. She was praised for her speech and began working in radio, performing in hundreds of radio plays and other radio shows. On television, she played in '' De Kleine Waarheid'' (as Maartje), in '' Q & Q'', and in '' Swiebertje''. She continued her work on the stage until the 1970s. She joined Nieuw Links, the "New Left" movement in the PvdA, in 1966, and later joined the party's board. Hilversum
Hilversum () is a city and municipality in the province of North Holland, Netherlands. Located in the heart of the Gooi, it is the largest urban centre in that area. It is surrounded by heathland, woods, meadows, lakes, and smaller towns. ''NRC'', previously called ''NRC Handelsblad'' (), is a daily morning newspaper published in the Netherlands by NRC Media. It is generally accepted as a newspaper of record in the Netherlands. History ''NRC Handelsblad'' was first published on 1 October 1970 after a merger of the Amsterdam newspaper ''Algemeen Handelsblad'' (founded 1828 by J.W. van den Biesen) and the Rotterdam ''Nieuwe Rotterdamsche Courant'' (founded 1844 by Henricus Nijgh). Rosa Spier Huis
The Rosa Spier Huis is a retirement home founded in 1963 in Laren, North Holland, Laren, Netherlands, where many notable Dutch artists lived out their final years. The original idea, by harpist Rosa Spier, was to create a community where artists could spend their last years while continuing to contribute artistically. The home has 73 apartments, some with studios. There are communal spaces as well, including a library and a theater. Mien Ruys designed the garden. In 2010, the home's director announced that rather than build new accommodations on the same location (on the Esseboom), the home would move to the Hector Treublaan, still within the town of Laren. Swiebertje
Swiebertje is a character from the books of Dutch author John Henri uit den Bogaard, who wrote a series of children's books based on the character from 1936 to 1974. The books were adapted for television (Joop Doderer playing the title role), in a series of shows which aired on NCRV in the 1960s and 1970s, one of the longest-running and most popular shows in Dutch TV history. Character and adventures The character Swiebertje is a tramp, and is supposed to be inspired by a drawing by Tjeerd Bottema. He is a "lovable vagabond", and his character as well as the TV show "present a comforting image of a simple rural past". His wanderings, during which he typically got in trouble but always found a happy ending, evoked romanticism and adventure. Laren () is a town and municipality in the province of North Holland, Netherlands. Located in the Gooi region, it is the oldest town in the area. Together with its neighbor Blaricum, Laren is one of the most affluent towns in the Netherlands.
