Pineapple is one of the fruit crops produced in Taiwan. Geography Pineapple fields in Taiwan are mostly located in the central and southern region, in which 30% of it is located in Pingtung County, followed by Kaohsiung (14%), Tainan (14%), Chiayi County (13%), Nantou County (12%) and Hualien County and Taitung County. Varieties More than 90 varieties of pineapple are grown in Taiwan however 84% of production is of just one variety, the golden diamond pineapple also known as Tainung 17. Other popular varieties are winter honey (Tainung 13), milky (Tainung 20), sugar-apple (Tainung 4), and perfume (Tainung 11). The smooth cayenne was the first variety introduced into Taiwan during the Japanese colonial period and remains in cultivation. Agriculture is one of the main industries in Taiwan. It contributes to the food security, rural development and conservation of Taiwan. Around 24% of Taiwan's land is used for farming. Taiwan Pineapple Museum
The Taiwan Pineapple Museum () is a museum of pineapple in Dashu District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. History The museum is housed in a refurbished factory constructed in 1925 called Jioucyutang Taifang Company, a factory that canned pineapples produced by farms around the region. In 2004, the factory building was listed as a historical monument by the Kaohsiung County Government. The building was then renovated and reopened as Taiwan Pineapple Museum in August 2018. Exhibitions The museum exhibits the history of the Jioucyutang Taifang Company and Dashu District. It also displays an overview of the agriculture activities in the region, especially of the pineapple industry. It has a collection of more than 50 canned pineapple labels produced by the company. Freedom Pineapples
Freedom pineapples ( zh, t=自由鳳梨, p=Zìyóu fènglí) was a political and social response in 2021 to a China, Chinese ban on the import of pineapples from Taiwan. The response encouraged domestic and international consumption to replace the loss of the Mainland China, mainland Chinese market, which had formerly imported 97% of all Taiwanese pineapple exports. The movement was particularly well-received by Taiwanese, Japanese, Australian and American audiences, but did not fully shield Taiwan from the economic consequences. In 2021, Taiwanese pineapple exports dropped to 55% of their 2019 levels. Nantou County
Nantou County (; Hokkien POJ: ''Lâm-tâu-koān''; Hakka PFS: ''Nàm-thèu-yen'') is the second largest county of Taiwan by area, located in the central part of the country. Chiayi County
Chiayi County (Mandarin pinyin: ''jiā yì xiàn''; Hokkien POJ: ''Ka-gī-koān'') is a county in southwestern Taiwan surrounding but not including Chiayi City. It is the sixth largest county in Taiwan.
