Pierre De Bruyn
Pierre de Bruyn (born 31 March 1977) is a South African former cricketer. Having made his debut in first-class cricket in the 1995–96 South African cricket season, de Bruyn proceeded to play first-class, List A and Twenty20 cricket for several teams as an all-rounder and occasional wicket-keeper until his retirement during the 2009–10 South African cricket season. Following his retirement, he moved into coaching. He was appointed the head coach of English county side Leicestershire in 2016, before resigning the following year. In December 2018, he was appointed as the head coach of the Namibia national cricket team. Early life and cricket career de Bruyn was born at Pretoria, where he was educated at Zwartkop High School. First-class Cricket
First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is one of three or more days' scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Matches must allow for the teams to play two innings each, although in practice a team might play only one innings or none at all. The etymology of "first-class cricket" is unknown, but it was used loosely before it acquired official status in 1895, following a meeting of leading English clubs. At a meeting of the Imperial Cricket Conference (ICC) in 1947, it was formally defined on a global basis. 2004 Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy
The 2004 Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy was an English county cricket tournament, held between 28 August 2003 and 28 August 2004. The competition was won by Gloucestershire Gladiators who beat the Worcestershire Royals by 8 wickets at Lord's. This was the final year where only red balls and white clothing was used in the competition. The England cricket team represents England and Wales in international cricket. Easterns (cricket Team)
Easterns (formerly Eastern Transvaal) has played first-class cricket in South Africa since October 1991, and List A cricket since October 1989. For the purposes of the SuperSport Series, Easterns has merged with Northerns (formerly Northern Transvaal) to form the Titans. Eastern Transvaal was spun off from Northern Transvaal at a meeting in Actonville, Benoni. Easterns was called Eastern Transvaal from October 1989 until February 1995, changing its name after the Transvaal became Gauteng and a new province called ''Eastern Transvaal'' (later Mpumalanga) was formed that excluded East Rand territories that were part of the Eastern Transvaal cricket team. Century (cricket)
In cricket, a century is a score of 100 or more runs in a single innings by a batsman. The term is also included in "century partnership" which occurs when two batsmen add 100 runs to the team total when they are batting together. A century is regarded as a landmark score for batsmen and a player's number of centuries is generally recorded in their career statistics. Scoring a century is loosely equivalent in merit to a bowler taking a five-wicket haul, and is commonly referred to as a ton or hundred. Scores of more than 200 runs are still statistically counted as a century, although these scores are referred to as double (200–299 runs), triple (300–399 runs), and quadruple centuries (400–499 runs), and so on. Gauteng (cricket Team)
Gauteng (formerly Transvaal) is the first-class cricket team of the southern parts of Gauteng province of South Africa. The team was called ''Transvaal'' from April 1890 to April 1997 (the area north of Johannesburg, including Pretoria being part of the Northerns, formerly ''Northern Transvaal''). Under the main competition's various names – the Currie Cup, then the Castle Cup, now the SuperSport Series – Transvaal/Gauteng cricket team has been the most successful of the South African domestic sides, winning 25 times.
