Piazza Tasso Massacre
The Piazza Tasso massacre (Italian: ''Eccidio in Piazza Tasso'') was a massacre that occurred on July 17, 1944, at Piazza Tasso in Florence, Tuscany, Italy. History On the above named date, Italian militias of the fascist Italian Social Republic allied with the German army, arrived to the piazza Tasso and opened fire, killing five persons. The goals of the shooting are still unclear; one hypothesis is that it was to intimidate the inhabitants of the quartiere di San Frediano, which included many opponents of the regime. In the days that followed, some 17 persons suspected of being partisans were murdered at Cascine on July 23. TASSO (Two Arm Spectrometer SOlenoid) was a particle detector at the PETRA particle accelerator at the German national laboratory DESY. The TASSO collaboration is best known for having discovered the gluon, the mediator of the strong interaction and carrier of the color charge. Four TASSO scientists, Paul Söding, Bjørn Wiik, Günter Wolf and Sau Lan Wu, were awarded the High Energy and Particle Physics Prize from the European Physical Society (EPS) in 1995. A special prize was also awarded to the TASSO collaboration, as well as the JADE, MARK J and PLUTO collaborations, in recognition of their combined work on the gluon as the "definite existence (of the gluon) emerged gradually from the results of the TASSO collaboration and the other experiments working at PETRA, JADE, MARK J and PLUTO". Oltrarno
The Oltrarno (''beyond the Arno'') is a quarter of Florence, Italy. It is located south of the River Arno. It contains part of the historic centre of Florence and many notable sites such as the church Santo Spirito di Firenze, Palazzo Pitti, Belvedere, and Piazzale Michelangelo.
