Phatik Chand (film)
''Phatik Chand'' is a Bengali children's film directed by Sandip Ray based on the novel of Satyajit Ray in the same name. This was the directorial debut of Sandip Ray, and was released in 1983. This film received Best feature film award at the International Children's Film Festival in Vancouver in 1984. Plot Bablu Sanyal, a Kolkata based boy is kidnapped by a gang while returning from school. But they have a car accident and Bablu loses his memory. The driver and one more kidnapper died on the spot, while the other two crooks, Shyamlal and Raghu, ran away leaving the unconscious Bablu presuming he is dead. Harun, a juggler and Bohemian street magician, saves him. Bablu calls himself Fatik Chandra Pal since he can not recall his original name. Meanwhile, Bablu's father Saradindu Sanyal advertises in the papers offering a huge reward for information about his son. Sandip Ray
Sandip Ray (born 8 September 1953) is an Indian film director and music director who mainly works in Bengali cinema. He is the only child of the famous Bengali director Satyajit Ray and Bijoya Ray. Life and education Sandip Ray was born in Calcutta. Initially schooled at the South Point School and the Patha Bhavan, Kolkata, he subsequently attended the University of Calcutta. Career Ray started his professional career in film at the age of 24 as assistant director on the sets of his father's film ''Shatranj Ke Khilari'' (''The Chess Players'', 1977). Prior to this, he had aided his father in various capacities including still photographer on set. His own directorial debut was ''Phatik Chand'' (1983) based on Satyajit Ray's Fatik Chand – the film received an award in the International Children's Film Festival in Vancouver. Haradhan Bannerjee
Haradhan Bandopadhyay (6 November 1926 – 5 January 2013) was a Bengali Indian male actor of television and films. He made his debut in the 1948 Bengali film ''Devdut'', directed by Atanu Bandopadhyay. He worked with some of the most prominent directors of Bengali cinema, like Satyajit Ray and Mrinal Sen. Early life Bandopadhyay started his schooling from Kushtia Municipal School in East Bengal, now Bangladesh. He passed matriculation in 1944. In 1946, he finished his IA exam from City College, Kolkata, an affiliate of the University of Calcutta. He worked in Gun & Shell factory. In 1946, he joined The Oriental Insurance Company Limited, and he continued there until his retirement . He was even sent to jail for his involvement in the freedom struggle movement of India. Kaushik Banerjee ( bn, কৌশিক ব্যানার্জী) is an Indian actor who is known for his work in Bengali cinema. He has appeared in more than a 100 films throughout his career of four decades. Born to the ace actor Haradhan Bannerjee, he made his acting debut opposite Mahua Roychoudhury in Dinen Gupta's Bengali romantic film ''Priyatama'' (1980). He claimed to fame for his lascivious role as Devendra in Ajoy Kar's ''Bishabriksha'' (1984) which is based on the novel of the same name by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee. Since his role as Devendra was much celebrated, he has often been typecast in salacious, negative roles in a number of Bengali films. Satyajit Ray
Satyajit Ray (; 2 May 1921 – 23 April 1992) was an Indian director, screenwriter, documentary filmmaker, author, essayist, lyricist, magazine editor, illustrator, calligrapher, and music composer. One of the greatest auteurs of film-making, Ray is celebrated for works including ''The Apu Trilogy'' (1955–1959), ''The Music Room'' (1958), ''The Big City'' (1963) and ''Charulata'' (1964). Ray was born in Calcutta to nonsense rhyme author Sukumar Ray. Starting his career as a commercial artist, Ray was drawn into independent film-making after meeting French filmmaker Jean Renoir and viewing Vittorio De Sica's Italian neorealist film ''Bicycle Thieves'' (1948) during a visit to London. Ray directed 36 films, including feature films, documentaries and shorts. Ray's first film, ''Pather Panchali'' (1955) won eleven international prizes, including the inaugural Best Human Document award at the 1956 Cannes Film Festival. Kamu Mukherjee
Kamu Mukherjee (14 June 1931 – 6 December 2003) was a Bengali actor, best known for his role as Mandar Bose in ''Sonar Kella'' and Harun in Sandip Ray's first film ''Phatik Chand''. Career Mukherjee's first film appearance was in the 1959 film ''Sonar Harin'' with Uttam Kumar, Chhabi Biswas and Bhanu Bandopadhyay. He had gone to Satyajit Ray's house and approached Ray to act in his films and, thereafter, he worked with Ray in nine films. Mukherjee is known for his performances in different types of roles, both serious and comic, in Ray's films. His acting in the knife throwing scene in the film '' Joi Baba Felunath'' is one of the more remembered scenes from the filmmaker's oeuvre. He also starred in the films of Goutam Ghosh, Buddhadev Dashgupta and Arabinda Mukhopadhyay . Mukherjee died at the age of 72 on 6 December 2003 from rheumatoid arthritis in his home in Kolkata.
