Peter Menegazzo
Peter Menegazzo (1944? – 2 December 2005) was an Australian grain grower and cattle baron. Born to an immigrant family of fruit and vegetable growers, Menegazzo was said to be an intensely private person who rarely gave media interviews. Menegazzo's father emigrated from Italy in 1925 to settle near Melbourne. Menegazzo helped build the family's fruit and vegetable merchant businesses across Australia. He later moved to Victoria, where he would become Australia's largest potato grower. In 1987, after a Cape holiday, Menegazzo moved his interests to beef and purchased several cattle stations, including Van Rook, Glen Ore and Warren Vale. In 2003, Menegazzo came under media attention with his purchase of Stanbroke Pastoral Company, said to be the largest rural transaction in Australia's history. Cattle baron is a historic term for a local businessman and landowner who possessed great power or influence through the operation of a large ranch with many beef cattle. Cattle barons in the late 19th century United States were also sometimes referred to as cowmen, stockmen, or just ranchers. In Australia, similar individuals owned large cattle stations. Stanbroke Pastoral Company was a company once owned by AMP Limited that was once one of the largest land owners in Australia. Established in about 1964, by 2003 the company owned 27 cattle stations in Queensland and the Northern Territory controlling some of pastoral country. Properties owned by Stanbroke included; Augustus Downs, Davenport Downs and Tanbar Stations and in Queensland and Banka Banka, Brunchilly, Lake Nash and Helen Springs Station in the Northern Territory. The company was purchased in 2004 by the Nebo Group who paid 417.5 million plus taking on outstanding debts. Condobolin, New South Wales
Condobolin is a town in the west of the Central West region of New South Wales, Australia, on the Lachlan River. At the , Condobolin had a population of 3,486. History Prior to European settlement, the area was inhabited by the Wiradjuri people. The name Condobolin is suggested by some to have evolved from the Aboriginal word Cundabullen — shallow crossing. The crossing was located a short distance below the junction of the Lachlan River and the Goobang Creek. Others suggest that the town's name from the Wiradjuri word for 'hop bush', or 'hop brush'.
