Peter Harris (entrepreneur)
Peter Harris (born March 1934) is a British businessman. He is best known for founding Bourne Leisure in 1964 and the owner of Butlins from September 2022. Career In 1964, Harris co-founded Bourne Leisure, a holiday and leisure company which owns Haven Holidays, Butlins, and Warner Leisure Hotels, after he audited a caravan park in his former role as an accountant. His co-founder was David Allen. In 1977, he began to buy land at Tring in Hertfordshire, where he trained racehorses until 2004. For the next seven years, the training licence was held by his son-in-law Walter Swinburn. Following his retirement as a trainer, Harris remained a significant owner of the yard. Swinburn relinquished his licence at the end of October 2011 for "commercial reasons". The estate was put on the market by Harris shortly after Swinburn's retirement. Butlins
Butlin's is a chain of large seaside resorts in the United Kingdom. Butlin's was founded by Billy Butlin to provide affordable holidays for ordinary British families. Between 1936 and 1966, ten camps were built, including one in Ireland and one in the Bahamas. Haven Holidays is a chain of holiday parks in the United Kingdom. It operates self catering static caravan holiday parks with many also including touring and camping facilities. The company operates 41 sites in the UK in predominantly coastal locations. The company was established in 1964 and bought by the Bourne Leisure Group in 2000. In November 2004 Bourne Leisure merged its existing British Holidays chain into the Haven Holidays brand. Bourne Leisure was sold to the Blackstone Group in January 2021. Tring
Tring is a market town and civil parish in the Borough of Dacorum, Hertfordshire, England. It is situated in a gap passing through the Chiltern Hills, classed as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, from Central London. Walter Swinburn
Walter Robert John Swinburn (7 August 1961 – 12 December 2016) was a flat racing jockey and trainer who competed in Great Britain and internationally. Biography Swinburn was born in Oxford. He was the son of Wally Swinburn, who won the Irish flat racing Champion Jockey title in 1976 and 1977 and was the first jockey to record over 100 winners in an Irish flat season. Nicknamed the "Choirboy", he rode his first winner, Paddy's Luck, on 12 July 1978 at Kempton Park but gained considerable fame for riding the superstar Shergar to victory in The Derby in 1981 by a record 10 lengths. Swinburn went on to win the Derby two more times.
