Peter Gorman Trophy
The Peter Gorman Trophy is awarded to the Rookie of the Year in U Sports Football. The Trophy acknowledges the great contribution Peter Gorman has made to the development of Canadian University Football. As founder of the Canadian College Bowl, his emphasis has always been on the youth of Canada, and is therefore associated with the award to encourage U Sports rookies. U Sports Football
U Sports football is the highest level of amateur play of Canadian football and operates under the auspices of U Sports (formerly Canadian Interuniversity Sport). Twenty-seven teams from Canadian universities are divided into four athletic conferences, drawing from the four regional associations of U Sports: Canada West Universities Athletic Association, Ontario University Athletics, Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec, and Atlantic University Sport. At the end of every season, the champions of each conference advance to semifinal bowl games; the winners of these meet in the Vanier Cup national championship. The origins of North American football can be traced here, where the first documented game was played at University College at the University of Toronto in 1861. 2007 CIS Football Season
The 2007 CIS football season began on August 31, 2007, and concluded with the 43rd Vanier Cup national championship on November 23 at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario, with the Manitoba Bisons winning their third championship. Twenty-seven universities across Canada competed in CIS football this season, the highest level of amateur play in Canadian football, under the auspices of Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS). Schedule 2007 marked the first year that the Vanier Cup and Grey Cup were played on the same weekend where they both took place in Toronto's Rogers Centre as part of the 95th Grey Cup celebrations. Daniel Vandervoort
Daniel "Danny" Vandervoort (born March 13, 1994) is a professional Canadian football wide receiver for the Edmonton Elks of the Canadian Football League (CFL). Vandervoort was drafted in the first round, third overall by the BC Lions in the 2017 CFL Draft. College career Vandervoort played college football at McMaster University playing for the McMaster Marauders where he was named CIS rookie of the year in 2013. Vandervoort collected 831 yards and five touchdowns in his final season with the Mauraders. Over four years at McMaster, he hauled in 148 receptions and 2,572 receiving yards. Shaquille Johnson (born May 2, 1993) is a Canadian football wide receiver for the Ottawa Redblacks of the Canadian Football League (CFL). University and junior football Johnson began his U Sports football, university football career with the McGill Redmen in 2012 CIS football season, 2012 and was awarded the Peter Gorman Trophy as the rookie of the year. He sat out for a year to help his mother, who was raising three other children on her own, during which time he played for the GTA Grizzlies of the Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL). John Tyler Varga (born September 24, 1993) is a dual Finnish-Canadian former professional American football fullback. He was signed by the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent on May 5, 2015. Linden David Gaydosh (born January 4, 1991) is a Canadian football defensive tackle who is currently a free agent. He most recently played for the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League (CFL). He played CIS football with the Calgary Dinos.
