Peter G. J. Pulzer
Peter George Julius Pulzer (29 May 1929 – 26 January 2023) was an Austrian-born British historian who was Gladstone Professor of Government at the University of Oxford from 1985 till 1996. Biography Peter G. J. Pulzer was born in Vienna, Austria, in 1929 and his family migrated to the United Kingdom in 1939. He studied history at Cambridge University and gained a doctorate. Pulzer's 1966 book "The Emergence of Political Anti-Semitism in Germany and Austria 1867–1914" was published, the book was critically acclaimed in the academic work and well regarded concerning the research of anti-Semitism and is still regarded as the benchmark standard regarding such research. Pulzer died on 27 January 2023, at the age of 93. Honours In 2008, Peter G. J. Pulzer received the Decoration of Honour for Services to the Republic of Austria. First Austrian Republic
The First Austrian Republic (german: Erste Österreichische Republik), officially the Republic of Austria, was created after the signing of the Treaty of Saint-Germain-en-Laye on 10 September 1919—the settlement after the end of World War I which ended the Habsburg rump state of Republic of German-Austria—and ended with the establishment of the Austrofascist Federal State of Austria based upon a dictatorship of Engelbert Dollfuss and the Fatherland's Front in 1934. Gladstone Professor Of Government
The Gladstone Professorship of Government is located at All Souls College at the University of Oxford. It was instituted in memory of William Ewart Gladstone. Initially the chair was described as the Gladstone Professorship of Political Theory and Institutions. In 1941 this was changed to Government and Public Administration. More recently the title has changed to Professor of Government. The professorship has never been held by a woman. Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht (V&R) is a scholarly publishing house based in Göttingen, Germany. It was founded in 1735 by (1700-1750) in connection with the establishment of the Georg-August-Universität in the same city. After Abraham Vandenhoeck's death in 1750, his English-born widow, Anna Vandenhoeck, née Parry (d. 1787) successfully continued the business together with Carl Friedrich Günther Ruprecht (born 1730), who had entered the business as an eighteen-year-old apprentice in 1748. At the death of Anna Vandenhoeck in 1787, Ruprecht took over the business which he led until his death in 1816, when he was succeeded by his 25-year-old son Carl August Adolf Ruprecht (1791-1861). Wolfgang Benz (born 9 June 1941) is a German historian from Ellwangen. He was the director of the Center for Research on Antisemitism of the Technische Universität Berlin between 1990 and 2011. Personal life Benz studied history, political science and art history in Frankfurt am Main, Kiel and Munich. In 1968 he completed his doctoral thesis on under the supervision of Karl Bosl at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München. From 1969 till 1990, Benz worked at the Institute for Contemporary History in Munich. In 1985 he was co-founder and editor of ''Dachauer Hefte'' and since 1992 he also edits the ''Jahrbuch für Antisemitismusforschung'' (''Yearbook for Research on Antisemitism'').
