Per Sunderland
Per Sunderland (9 October 1924 – 4 June 2012) was a Norwegian stage actor and film actor. He made his stage debut at Studioteatret in 1945. He performed at Det Norske Teatret from 1949, at Det Nye Teater from 1951, at Folketeatret from 1952, and at Nationaltheatret from 1957. He played the title role in the film ''Hans Nielsen Hauge Hans Nielsen Hauge (3 April 1771 – 29 March 1824) was a 19th-century Norwegian Lutheran lay minister, spiritual leader, business entrepreneur, social reformer and author. He led a noted Pietism revival known as the Haugean movement. Hauge is als ...'' from 1961. Per Sunderland retired from stage and film when he reached the age limit in 1995. Shortly before he retired, he was appointed a Knight of the 1st Class of the Order of St. Olav. Sunderland died on 4 June 2012. Studioteatret
Studioteatret was a theatre in Norway. It opened in 1945, shortly after the liberation, with Claes Gill as its first theatre director. Studioteatret is regarded as one of the earliest post-war artistic expressions in Norway, and most of its members later played important roles in Norwegian theatre. Studioteatret closed 25 October 1950, due to economic difficulties, and its members were spread to various other theatres. Background During the German occupation the theatres in Norway were subject to a nazification process by the German occupants and the Nazi collaborationist government. The Nazis established a school called "Statens teaterskole", and demanded it to be mandatory for everybody that wanted to work in a theatre. The school was largely boycotted by students. When the Nazi government took control over the theatres by arresting resistant board members and inserting supporters in leading roles, the theatres experienced a general boycott from the public. The theatre was founded in 1912, after an initiative from Hulda Garborg and Edvard Drabløs. It opened in 1913, touring with two plays, ''Ervingen'' by Ivar Aasen and ''Rationelt Fjøsstell'' by Hulda Garborg. Its first official performance was Ludvig Holberg's comedy ''Jeppe på berget'', with Haakon VII of Norway and the prime minister of Norway among the spectators. Hulda Garborg was the first board manager, and Rasmus Rasmussen was the first theatre director. The theatre primarily performs plays written in or translated into Nynorsk. The theatre has three stages, and about 12–15 productions per year, plus guest plays. Det Nye Teater
Det Nye Teater was a theatre that opened in Oslo in 1929, and ended as an independent theatre in 1959, when it merged with Folketeatret to form Oslo Nye Teater. The theatre's original purpose was to support contemporary Norwegian drama. History The company A/S Det Nye Teater was founded in 1918, by Johan Bojer and Peter Egge. Among the largest financial supporters were ship owner Ivar An Christensen, and also the Norwegian State bought a significant number of shares. The theatre building was designed by the architects Blakstad and Dunker. The theatre's first artistic director was Ingolf Schanche, from 1928 to 1931. The theatre opened on 26 to 28 February 1929, with Knut Hamsun's trilogy, ''Ved rigets port'', ''Livets spil'' and ''Aftenrøde'', followed by Peter Egge's play ''Kjærlighet og venskap''. Folketeatret
Folketeateret is a theatre in Oslo, Norway. The building has been used as a movie theatre and as an opera house. The theatre has 1,400 seats. History The theatre itself operated from 1952 to 1959, but the institution has a much longer history. Inspired by the Freie Deutsche Volksbühne in Berlin led to forming of interest organizations in Bergen and Oslo in 1928 and 1929. The idea to establish a good theater for the working class. The ''Folketeatret'' building in Oslo was commissioned in 1929, and the architects Christian Morgenstierne (1880–1967) and Arne Eide (1881–1957) worked on it until it opened in 1935. For financial reasons, a theatre did not open immediately, but a movie theatre was operated. The first theatre performance happened in 1952. The National Theatre in Oslo ( no, Nationaltheatret) is one of Norway's largest and most prominent venues for performance of dramatic arts. History The theatre had its first performance on 1 September 1899 but can trace its origins to Christiania Theatre, which was founded in 1829. ''Hans Nielsen Hauge'' is a Norwegian film from 1961 directed by Kåre Bergstrøm. It is a dramatization of the life of the lay minister Hans Nielsen Hauge (1771–1824). The film received a lukewarm reception from ''Verdens Gangs reviewer, who gave it three out of six stars. Plot The film opens in 1804, when Crown Prince Regent Frederick is ruling Denmark–Norway. The Royal Danish Chancellery has issued an arrest warrant for Hans Nielsen Hauge. The arrest warrant is sent to all the county governors in Norway, and Hauge is taken to Christiania in irons. The film follows the trial against Hauge. An impression of his past life and work is given in retrospect. The case against Hauge lasted many years because Copenhagen found no reason to hurry. This was a turning point in Norway, and Napoleon was building an empire in Europe. The case was not concluded until 1813. Knut Helle
Knut Helle (19 December 1930 – 27 June 2015) was a Norwegian historian. A professor at the University of Bergen from 1973 to 2000, he specialized in the late medieval history of Norway. He has contributed to several large works. Early life, education and marriage He was born in Larvik as the son of school inspector Hermann Olai Helle (1893–1973) and teacher Berta Marie Malm (1906–1991). He was the older brother of politician Ingvar Lars Helle. The family moved to Hetland when Knut Helle was seventeen years old. He took the examen artium in Stavanger in 1949, and a teacher's education in Kristiansand in 1952. He studied philology in Oslo and Bergen, and graduated with the cand.philol. degree in 1957.
