Pennsylvania Route 47
Pennsylvania Route 47 was a state highway split into three segments in north Pennsylvania. The three segments were simultaneously assigned in 1927; two were decommissioned in 1928, and the last was decommissioned in 1930; however, the three segments were never connected. The three segments are now part of other Pennsylvania state highways. *The western segment, from Meadville to Pittsfield Township, became part of Pennsylvania Route 27 in 1928. *The central segment, from Emporium to Smethport, became part of Pennsylvania Route 46 in 1928. *The eastern segment, from Kingsley to Carbondale, was decommissioned in 1930 as it was already part of U.S. Route 106. A state highway, state road, or state route (and the equivalent provincial highway, provincial road, or provincial route) is usually a road that is either ''numbered'' or ''maintained'' by a sub-national state or province. A road numbered by a state or province falls below numbered national highways (Canada being a notable exception to this rule) in the hierarchy (route numbers are used to aid navigation, and may or may not indicate ownership or maintenance). Roads maintained by a state or province include both nationally numbered highways and un-numbered state highways. Meadville, Pennsylvania
Meadville is a city in and the county seat of Crawford County, Pennsylvania. The city is within of Erie and within of Pittsburgh. It was the first permanent settlement in Northwestern Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania Route 27 (PA 27) is a state highway located in northwest Pennsylvania. The western terminus of the route is at Park Avenue near U.S. Route 6 (US 6) and US 19 in Meadville. The eastern terminus is at PA 69 three miles (5 km) south of Sugar Grove. History From 1927 to 1928, PA 27 between U.S. Route 322 in Meadville and US 6 in the Pittsfield Township community of Pittsfield was known as the western segment of Pennsylvania Route 47. In 1928, west PA 47 was decommissioned and replaced with PA 27. Emporium, Pennsylvania
Emporium is a borough and the county seat of Cameron County in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. It is located west-northwest of Williamsport. Early in the twentieth century, there were large power plants and manufacturers of radio tubes and incandescent lamps (Sylvania Electric Products), paving brick, flour, iron, lumber, and sole leather. In 1900, 2,463 people lived in Emporium, and in 1910, the population was 2,916. By 2010 the population had dropped to 2,073, and at the 2020 census, the population was 1,961. Kingsley, Pennsylvania
Kingsley is in Harford Township, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, United States. Kingsley was named after Revolutionary War veteran Rufus Kingsley, who had been the first settler in the area. Carbondale is a city in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, United States. Carbondale is located approximately 15 miles due northeast of the city of Scranton in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
