Peninsula Community Health
Peninsula Community Health was a community interest company created in October 2011 as not-for-profit service provider by Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Primary Care Trust. It ran 14 community hospitals in Cornwall: Bodmin Hospital, Camborne Redruth Community Hospital, St Ives (Edward Hain Community Hospital), Falmouth, Fowey, Helston, Launceston, Liskeard, Newquay, Penzance (Poltair Community Hospital), St Austell, Saltash (St Barnabas Community Hospital), Isles Of Scilly (St Mary's Community Hospital), and Bude (Stratton Community Hospital). In July 2015, it decided to give up the hospital contract as uneconomic. A community interest company (CIC, colloquially pronounced "kick") is a type of company introduced by the United Kingdom government in 2005 under the Companies (Audit, Investigations and Community Enterprise) Act 2004, designed for social enterprises that want to use their profits and assets for the public good. CICs are intended to be easy to establish, with all the flexibility and certainty of the company form, but with some special features to ensure they are working for the benefit of the community. Primary Care Trust
Primary care trusts (PCTs) were part of the National Health Service in England from 2001 to 2013. PCTs were largely administrative bodies, responsible for commissioning primary, community and secondary health services from providers. Until 31 May 2011, they also provided community health services directly. Collectively PCTs were responsible for spending around 80 per cent of the total NHS budget. Primary care trusts were abolished on 31 March 2013 as part of the Health and Social Care Act 2012, with their work taken over by clinical commissioning groups. Bodmin Hospital
Bodmin Hospital is a community hospital in Bodmin, Cornwall, England. It is managed by the Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. History A new facility was procured under a Private Finance Initiative contract in 2000 to replace both St Lawrence's Hospital and the old East Cornwall Hospital. The new hospital was built at a cost of £10 million and was opened by Charles, Prince of Wales in 2002. Services The hospital has five psychiatric and dementia wards, plus two wards for physical health and well-being. Services include an X-ray department, a dental clinic and a psychiatry department. Camborne Redruth Community Hospital
The Camborne Redruth Community Hospital is a National Health Service hospital in Cornwall, England. It is managed by Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. History The hospital has its origins in the Redruth Mines Infirmary, which was largely financed by Lord Robartes and completed in 1863. An accident ward was added in 1871. The West Cornwall Women's Hospital was completed on an adjacent site in 1899, and the two hospitals amalgamated in 1901. The amalgamated facility became the West Cornwall Miners and Women's Hospital in 1915 and the Camborne-Redruth Miners and General Hospital in 1940. Andrew Henry George (born 2 December 1958) is a British Liberal Democrat politician. He was the Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency of St Ives in Cornwall from 1997 to 2015, when he was defeated by the Conservatives' Derek Thomas. He was the Vice-Chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Housing and Planning Group in the 2010 parliament. He currently serves as a Cornwall Councillor for Ludgvan, Madron, Gulval and Heamoor, having been elected in the 2021 local elections. The Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust is an NHS trust which runs West Cornwall Hospital, St Michael's Hospital, Royal Cornwall Hospital, and St Austell Hospital - Penrice Birthing Unit, in Cornwall, England. Clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) were NHS organisations set up by the Health and Social Care Act 2012 to organise the delivery of NHS services in each of their local areas in England. On 1 July 2022 they were abolished and replaced by Integrated care systems as a result of the Health and Care Act 2022.
