Pedro Jorge Vera (1914 in Guayaquil – 1999) was an Ecuadorian writer and Communist Party of Ecuador politician. He contributed to several newspapers and magazines of controversial character " La Calle", with the writer Alejandro Carrión, as well as " La Mañana". Communist Party of Ecuador (in Spanish: ''Partido Comunista del Ecuador'') is a communist party in Ecuador. It was formed in 1925 as the Socialist Party. The party publishes ''El Pueblo'', the general secretary is Winston Alarcón and the youth wing of the PCE is the Communist Youth of Ecuador. History After its foundation PCE gradually gained in importance; in 1944 the PCE won fifteen out of eighty-five seats in the National Assembly and had one of its members appointed minister of education. The first female MP of the country, Nela Martínez, belonged to the party. In 1946 the government outlawed the PCE and jailed many of its members. The PCE was legalized during the 1948-52 term of President Galo Plaza, but was banned again when the military junta held power in 1963-1966. In 1964 PCE suffered a major split. Alejandro Carrión
Alejandro Carrión Aguirre (11 March 1915 – 4 January 1992) was an Ecuadorian poet, novelist and journalist. He wrote the novel ''La espina'' (1959), the short story book ''La manzana dañada'' (1983), and numerous poetry books. As a journalist he published many of his articles under the pseudonym " Juan Sin Cielo." In 1956 he founded, along with Pedro Jorge Vera, the political magazine '' La Calle''. He directed the literary magazine '' Letras del Ecuador''. He received the Maria Moors Cabot prize (1961) from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism as well as the Ecuadorian National Prize Premio Eugenio Espejo (1981) for his body of work. He was the nephew of Benjamín Carrión and Clodoveo Carrión. Noralma Vera Arrata (born 28 August 1936) is a former Ecuadorian prima ballerina and choreographer. Vera Arrata was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador where she grew up as the only daughter among three sons of the distinguished politician and former Culture minister Alfredo Vera Vera and his wife, Baltita Arrata Macias.
