Pedja River
The Pedja ( et, Pedja jõgi) is the fourth longest river in Estonia. Its source is near Simuna on the southern slopes of the Pandivere Upland. The river flows for 122 km through Lääne-Viru, Jõgeva and Tartu Tartu is the second largest city in Estonia after the Northern European country's political and financial capital, Tallinn. Simuna, Estonia
Simuna is a small borough in Väike-Maarja Parish, Lääne-Viru County, in northeastern Estonia. It had a population of 454 as of 2011. Before 2005 Simuna was the centre of Avanduse Parish which was merged to Väike-Maarja Parish. One of the points of the Struve Geodetic Arc is located in Simuna. Avanduse manor The manor of Avanduse (german: Awandus) is located in Simuna. It was first mentioned in written records in 1494. The present-day manor building was erected in 1679–1684 by master builder Gerd Vorberg from Reval (Tallinn) who had been commissionned by the owner of the Avanduse estate at the time, Gideon von Fock. The building has been significantly rebuilt since then; most recent changes were made by architect Rudolf von Engelhardt in 1890. Admiral and geographer Friedrich von Lütke (1797–1882) was one of the most famous owners of the estate, and a plaque dedicated to him stands on the manor building's wall. Lääne-Viru County ( et, Lääne-Viru maakond or ''Lääne-Virumaa'') is one of 15 counties of Estonia. It is in northern Estonia, on the south coast of the Gulf of Finland. Emajõgi (; meaning ''"Mother River"'') is a river in Estonia which flows from Lake Võrtsjärv through Tartu County into Lake Peipsi, crossing the city of Tartu for 10 km. It has a length of 100 km. The Emajõgi is sometimes called the Suur Emajõgi ("Great Emajõgi"), in contrast with the Väike Emajõgi ("Little Emajõgi"), another river which flows into the southern end of Lake Võrtsjärv. Lake Võrtsjärv (; german: Wirzsee) is a lake in southern Estonia with an area of 270 km² (104 mi²). It is the second largest lake in Estonia (behind Lake Peipus), and the largest lake situated entirely within Estonia. The shallow lake is 33.7 m (111 ft) above sea level. The river Emajõgi flows from Lake Võrtsjärv to Lake Peipus. Jõgeva
Jõgeva (german: Laisholm) is a small town in Estonia with a population of around 5000 people. It is the capital of Jõgeva Parish and Jõgeva County. History Jõgeva was first mentioned in 1599 as ''Jagiwa'' manor, being established only recently on the lands of the same named village by the orders of the Polish king. During the Polish reign in Estonia (1582–1622) it was part of Laiuse starostwo, which became Laiuse fief during Swedish rule (1622–1721). In 1756, Jõgeva manor became the property of Gotthard Johann von Manteuffel (1690–1763) and remained in the family of von Manteuffel until 1919 when it was nationalized by the government. In 1876, a railway station, named Laisholm after the manor, was established near the village of Jõgeva. Alam-Pedja Nature Reserve
Alam-Pedja Nature Reserve ( et, Alam-Pedja looduskaitseala) is the largest nature reserve in Estonia. It is a vast wilderness area which covers and consists of a complex of 5 large bogs separated by unregulated rivers, their floodplains, and extensive forests. The nature reserve aims to protect diverse ecosystems and rare species, mainly through preserving the natural development of forests and bogs and securing the continuing management of semi-natural floodplain grasslands.
