Paulus Schäfer
Paulus Schäfer (born 31 March 1978) is a guitarist, composer, and arranger from the Netherlands. A member of the Dutch Sinti-Romani, he considers Django Reinhardt his idol. He has worked with Stochelo Rosenberg, Fapy Lafertin, Tim Kliphuis, Jimmy Rosenberg, Dominique Paats, Biréli Lagrène, and Andreas Öberg. Career Schäfer was born in Gerwen, Nuenen into a Dutch Sinti community that was the home of Jimmy Rosenberg and Stochelo Rosenberg. This tradition of gypsy jazz was started by Wasso Grünholz. He replaced Jimmy Rosenberg as the leader of the band Gipsy Kids. In 2001 he formed the Paulus Schäfer Gipsy Band with rhythm guitarist Sendelo Schäfer, bassist Jozua Rosenberg, and violinist Martien Wagner in 2001. They recorded their debut album ''Into the Light'' during the next year. Nuenen
Nuenen () is a town in the municipality of Nuenen, Gerwen en Nederwetten in the Netherlands. From 1883 to 1885, Vincent van Gogh lived and worked in Nuenen. In 1944, the town was a battle scene during Operation Market Garden. The local dialect is called Peellands. In 2009, Nuenen had a population of 22,437. Sziget Festival
The Sziget Festival ( hu, Sziget Fesztivál, ; "Sziget" for "Island") is one of the largest Music festival, music and cultural festivals in Europe. Dutch jazz refers to the jazz music of the Netherlands. The Dutch traditionally have a vibrant jazz scene as shown by the North Sea Jazz Festival as well as other venues. History Early period In the Netherlands jazz began around 1919 to 1921. In the early thirties Paul Whiteman and Duke Ellington would perform in the nation sparking further interest. By the late 1930s the Dutch jazz group The Ramblers performed with Coleman Hawkins among others. The AVRO employed the Dutch Dick Willebrandts between 1937 and 1940 as a pianist with the AVRO Dance Orchestra the bandleader of which was the clarinetist Hans Mossel. Willebrandts also wrote arrangements for the AVRO Dance Orchestra. Still there was some discomfort with the jazz clubs and fear the musicians would be corrupting on Dutch women.
