Swahili Language
Swahili, also known by its local name , is the native language of the Swahili people, who are found primarily in Tanzania, Kenya and Mozambique (along the East African coast and adjacent litoral islands). It is a Bantu language, though Swahili has borrowed a number of words from foreign languages, particularly Arabic, but also words from Portuguese, English and German. Zap Mama
Zap Mama is the music act of Belgian artist Marie Daulne. Zap Mama sings polyphonic and afro-pop music, a harmonic music with a mixture of infused African vocal techniques, urban, hip hop with emphasis on voice. Marie Daulne
Marie Daulne (born 20 October 1964) is a Belgian singer. Daulne was born in Isiro, Haut-Uele District, Democratic Republic of the Congo to a Belgian who was killed that same year by Simba rebels, and to a local Congolese woman. Daulne and her mother and sisters were airlifted out to Kinshasa in an emergency evacuation by Belgian paratroopers and flown to Belgium because their father had been a Belgian citizen. Daulne was raised in Belgium and as of 2007 calls Brussels home, but lived in New York City for three years starting in 2000. Daulne is the founder and lead singer of the music group Zap Mama whose second album, ''Adventures in Afropea 1,'' "became 1993's best-selling world music album and established Zap Mama as an international concert sensation." Watsa Territory
Watsa Territory is an administrative area in the Haut-Uele province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The administrative center is the town of Watsa. Security issues During the Second Congo War (1998-2003), in August 1998, Ugandan troops occupied areas of Haut Uele including the town of Durba, the site of the Gorumbwa, Durba and Agbarabo gold mines. Almost one ton of gold was extracted during the four-year period of occupation, worth about $9 million at the time. At the end of September 2009, fighters from the Lord's Resistance Army LRA combatants were said to have attacked a number of villages in the Durba/Watsa mining area. As of April 2010 Watsa Territory was thought to have about 13,960 Internally Displaced People. Niangara Territory is an administrative region in the Haut-Uele province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Its headquarters is the town of Niangara, lying on both sides of the Uele River. Economy At least 33,000 people in the territory have no local access to clean water. Security problems In January 2010, attacks by the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) in Niangara Territory displaced about 45,000 people to Rungu Territory in the Haut-Uélé District. It was reported that the Internally Displaced People were living in schools and other public buildings. In May 2010 a group calling itself "The human rights defenders of Niangara" published an appeal to U.S. President Barack Obama to take more effective action against the LRA. Dungu Territory
Dungu is a territory in the Haut-Uele Province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The administrative center is the town of Dungu, which lies on both sides of the Uele River. The territory is divided into the Ndoromo, Maringindo and Wandu chiefdoms. Starting in September 2008, the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) conducted a series of attacks on civilians in Dungu territory. By December that year there are more than 83,000 Internally Displaced Persons in the territory. An attack on Dungu city on 1 November 2008 caused 57,000 of its inhabitants to flee. The next month some had returned to the south of the city, but the northern section was deserted. As of December 2008, the center of Dungu was isolated.
