Faradje Territory is an administrative area in the Haut-Uele Province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The main town is Faradje, lying on the Dungu River. Faradje
Faradje is a town in the Haut-Uele province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and is the administrative center of Faradje Territory. It lies on the Dungu River. It had a population of about 25,000 in 2009. It has dirt streets, a police station and a market. There is a small airstrip (code FZJK). It lies at an elevation of above sea level. The Dungu River is a river that flows through Haut-Uele province in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It passes through the town of Faradje, and joins the Kibali River at Dungu to form the Uele River. The river flows between the town of Dungu and the local airstrip. The river is home to crocodiles, hippopotamuses and snakes. The Lord's Resistance Army (LRA), also known as the Lord's Resistance Movement, is a rebel group and heterodox Christian group which operates in northern Uganda, South Sudan, the Central African Republic, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Originally known as the United Holy Salvation Army and Uganda Christian Army/Movement, its stated goals include establishment of multi-party democracy, ruling Uganda according to the Ten Commandments, and Acholi nationalism. Dungu Territory
Dungu is a territory in the Haut-Uele Province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The administrative center is the town of Dungu, which lies on both sides of the Uele River. The territory is divided into the Ndoromo, Maringindo and Wandu chiefdoms. Starting in September 2008, the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) conducted a series of attacks on civilians in Dungu territory. By December that year there are more than 83,000 Internally Displaced Persons in the territory. An attack on Dungu city on 1 November 2008 caused 57,000 of its inhabitants to flee. Niangara Territory is an administrative region in the Haut-Uele province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Its headquarters is the town of Niangara, lying on both sides of the Uele River. Economy At least 33,000 people in the territory have no local access to clean water. Security problems In January 2010, attacks by the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) in Niangara Territory displaced about 45,000 people to Rungu Territory in the Haut-Uélé District. It was reported that the Internally Displaced People were living in schools and other public buildings. Watsa Territory
Watsa Territory is an administrative area in the Haut-Uele province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The administrative center is the town of Watsa. Security issues During the Second Congo War (1998-2003), in August 1998, Ugandan troops occupied areas of Haut Uele including the town of Durba, the site of the Gorumbwa, Durba and Agbarabo gold mines. Almost one ton of gold was extracted during the four-year period of occupation, worth about $9 million at the time. At the end of September 2009, fighters from the Lord's Resistance Army LRA combatants were said to have attacked a number of villages in the Durba/Watsa mining area.
