Paul Harrison (racing Driver)
Paul Harrison (born 4 April 1969) is a BriSCA Formula 1 Stock Cars racing driver from Rotherham who races under number 2. Harrison is a former World Champion and one of the most recognisable figures in the sport. Early life Harrison was born on 4 April 1969 in Rotherham. His father, Willie Harrison, was a popular Formula 1 Stock Car racing driver. Harrison began to follow in his father’s footsteps when he raced competitively for the first time in 1977 in a Ministox, at the age of 8. The promoter allowed Harrison to race despite being aware that he was below the minimum age requirement. Racing career Harrison began racing Formula 1 stock cars at the age of 16 in August 1985, using one of his father’s cars and racing as number 22. The first few years were spent developing his skills. Rotherham
Rotherham () is a large minster and market town in South Yorkshire, England. The town takes its name from the River Rother which then merges with the River Don. The River Don then flows through the town centre. It is the main settlement of the Metropolitan Borough of Rotherham. BriSCA Formula 1 Stock Cars
BriSCA Formula 1 Stock Cars is a class of single-seater stock-car-racing in the UK with custom-built cars, with races conducted on walled oval tracks of either shale or tarmac of approximately a quarter-mile in length. The cars are of an open wheel design. The cars may be of any horsepower and drivers can use any engine they choose, with Chevrolet based small or big block V8 engines being the most popular. The season runs from March through to November, with occasional meetings during Christmas time. BriSCA Formula 1 Stock Cars World Championship
The World Championship is an annual competition started in 1955 for BriSCA Formula 1 Stock Cars. It is the premier championship of the formula and the winner is granted the honour of racing with a gold roof and wing until the next World Final, and if desired they can race under number 1. Qualification The World Final is usually held in September. The host tracks, all of which are based in the UK, are decided by the BriSCA promoters. The grid for the World Final is mostly composed of drivers from the UK who are chosen through a series of qualifying rounds and two World Championship Semi-Finals. Drivers who fail to progress from the World Semi-Finals may race again in a Consolation Semi-Final to choose two more entrants, and the reigning World Champion is entitled to start at the rear of the grid if they have not already qualified. Owlerton Stadium
Owlerton Stadium, also known as Sheffield Stadium, is a purpose-built speedway track built in 1929 which also hosts greyhound racing The track is in Owlerton near Hillsborough in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. Greyhound racing takes place on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday evenings and every Monday and Thursday afternoon. There is a modern glass-fronted Panorama Restaurant accommodating up to 300 people, executive suites, fast food facilities and a number of bars. The stadium is also home to the Sheffield Tigers Speedway team and hosts BriSCA Formula One stock car racing events. Speedway takes place on a Thursday evening and the stadium has a total capacity for 4,000 spectators. It is operated by the A & S Leisure Group, the majority shareholder of which is Dave Allen. Contact is allowed in UK stock car racing, that is, if you are unable to pass an opponent using speed alone, you are allowed to push or hit your opponent in order to pass. The degree of contact allowed varies between categories. History Stock car racing was brought to Britain in 1954. Taking place on existing greyhound or speedway tracks, the cars were mostly road cars from the 1930s with locked rear axle differentials and added armour for contact racing.
