Patrick Ndururi
Patrick Ndururi Kinaga (21 January 1969 – 25 October 2009) was a Kenyan middle-distance runner who specialized in the 800 metres. On 13 August 1997 he ran a personal best of 1:42.62 minutes at the Weltklasse Zürich meeting. This time ranks him in the top twenty fastest people in history over this distance. His greatest performance on the global stage came at the 1997 World Championships in Athletics, where he finished seventh in the final. He was the 400 metres bronze medallist at the 1995 Military World Games. He won three international 800 m medals in his career: silver at the 1997 IAAF Grand Prix Final, gold at the 1998 Goodwill Games, and silver at the 1998 African Championships in Athletics. Middle-distance running events are track races longer than sprints, up to 3000 metres. The standard middle distances are the 800 metres, 1500 metres and mile run, although the 3000 metres may also be classified as a middle-distance event. Uniondale is a census-designated place (CDP), as well as a suburb in Nassau County, New York, Nassau County, New York (state), New York, on Long Island, in the Town of Hempstead, New York, Town of Hempstead. Athletics At The 1998 Goodwill Games
At the 1998 Goodwill Games, the athletics events were held at the Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale, New York, United States from 19 to 22 July. The programme consisted of 44 track and field events, of which 22 were contested by male athletes and 22 by female athletes. With the introduction of the women's hammer throw and mile run, the men's and women's programmes achieved equivalent parity for the first time. The United States topped the athletics medal table for a third consecutive edition winning 17 gold medals and 55 medals in total. Russia were the next best performing nation, with 11 golds and 21 medals. Kenya, Cuba and Jamaica rounded out the top-five countries.
