Partners HealthCare International (PHI) provides advisory services and professional consulting to organizations outside the United States. PHI is a subsidiary of Partners HealthCare System, a non-profit health care system based in Boston, Massachusetts. History PHI was founded in 1994 as a subsidiary of Harvard University. From 1994 until 2008, the organization was known as Harvard Medical International, or HMI. Partners In Health (PIH) is an international nonprofit public health organization founded in 1987 by Paul Farmer, Ophelia Dahl, Thomas J. White, Todd McCormack, and Jim Yong Kim. Partners in Health provides healthcare in the poorest areas of developing countries. It builds hospitals and other medical facilities, hires and trains local staff, and delivers a range of healthcare, from in-home consultations to cancer treatments. It also removes barriers to maintaining good health, such as dirty water or a lack of food, and strengthens the rights of the poor. Hospital contract controversy In 2014 it "formulated a bid for the management and administration of a number of hospitals in the Maltese Islands". In November 2015, the company was given the contract by Maltese authorities.
