Paronyan Musical Comedy Theatre
Officially Hakob Paronyan State Musical Comedy Theatre, is one of the prominent theatres of the Armenian capital Yerevan, founded in 1941. It is located on Vazgen Sargsyan Street in the central Kentron (district), Kentron district of the city, near the Republic Square, Yerevan, Republic Square. It is named after the Armenians, Armenian renowned satirist Hagop Baronian. History The Theatre was opened on June 22, 1942. The first artistic director was Shara Talyan. Many well-known persons worked in theatre, including Artemi Ayvazyan, Vardan Ajemian, Mikael Arutchian, Karp Khachvankyan, Svetlana Grigoryan, Armen Elbakyan, Yervand Ghazanchyan and others. Musical Comedy Theatre participated at international theatre festivals in Armenia, Georgia, Iran, England, the United States. Vardan Ajemian
Vardan Mkrtchi Ajemian ( hy, Վարդան Մկրտչի Աճեմյանը; September 15, 1905 in Van, Ottoman Empire – January 24, 1977 in Yerevan, Soviet Armenia) was an Armenian theatrical director and actor. He was named People's Artist of USSR in 1965 and Hero of Socialist Labour in 1975. Biography Ajemian studied in Yerevan and Moscow. In 1928 he founded the Second Armenian State Theatre (Gyumri State Theatre). In 1939 he moved to Yerevan Sundukian Theatre and became its artistic director. He directed Alexander Shirvanzade's ''For the Honour'' (1939), William Saroyan's ''My Heart is in the Mountains'' (1961), Papazian's ''Rock'' (1944), Nairi Zarian's ''Ara Geghetsik'' (1946), Aramashot Papayan's ''The World, Yes, Turned Upside Down'' (1967) and several musical presentations. Artemi (Harutyun) Ayvazyan ( hy, Արտեմի Այվազյան, russian: Артемий Айвазян; June 26, 1902 – November 14, 1975) was a Soviet Armenian composer, conductor, founder of the Armenian State Jazz Orchestra, and People's Artist of Armenia (1962). Biography Ayvazyan was born in Baku to a musical family. Many famous musicians including Fyodor Shalyapin and Sergei Rachmaninoff visited the family apartment on Merkurievskaya Street. Ayvazyan graduated from the Tbilisi State Conservatory in 1923 and studied at the studio of Alexander Spendiarian.
