Parker Island (Ottawa River)
Parker Island is a roughly island in the Southern Gulf Islands of British Columbia, Canada. It forms the western side of Montague Harbour, sheltering it from the strong wind gusts of Trincomali Channel. The island may be reached by floatplane, private boat, helicopter or water taxi; there is no public ferry service. On Parker Island, there is a cable terminal of HVDC Vancouver Island, which is the endpoint of the second overhead line section of HVDC Vancouver Island starting at the east coast of Galiano Island and which reaches Parker Island in a long span. Parker Island is named after Lieutenant George Ferdinand Hastings Parker of HMS ''Ganges'', flagship of the Royal Navy's Pacific Station, which was based in Esquimalt. Parker Island has approximately 25 residents. Half of these residents live there part-time, due to the island's rustic grounds and harsh weather conditions. The Gulf Islands are a group of islands in the Salish Sea between Vancouver Island and the mainland coast of British Columbia. Montague Harbour Marine Provincial Park is a provincial park in British Columbia, Canada, located on Galiano Island, one of the Gulf Islands off BC's South Coast in Canada. Trincomali Channel is a channel located in the Gulf Islands of British Columbia, Canada. Etymology Trincomali Channel is named for the ship HMS ''Trincomalee'', which was assigned to the Royal Navy's Pacific Station at Esquimalt from 1852 to 1856. Geography Trincomali Channel is located between Pylades Island to the north; Thetis, Penelakut, and Salt Spring Islands to the west; Valdes and Galiano Islands to the east; and Prevost Island to the south. HVDC Vancouver Island
HVDC Vancouver Island is a de-energized high-voltage direct current interconnection between Arnott Substation (ARN) in Delta, British Columbia at on the Canadian mainland, and the Vancouver Island Terminal (VIT) in Duncan, British Columbia on Vancouver Island at . It went into operation in 1968 and was extended in 1977. HVDC Vancouver Island consists of three overhead line sections with a total length of 42 kilometres and two submarine cable sections with a length of 33 kilometres. Galiano Island
Galiano Island (Hul'qumi'num: ''Swiikw'') is one of the Southern Gulf Islands located between Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland of British Columbia, Canada. Located on the west side of the Strait of Georgia, the island is bordered by Mayne Island to the southeast, Salt Spring Island to the west and Valdes Island to the northwest. HMS ''Ganges'' was an 84-gun second-rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, launched on 10 November 1821 at Bombay Dockyard, constructed from teak. She was the last sailing ship of the Navy to serve as a flagship, and was the second ship to bear the name. Admiralty orders of 4 June 1816 directed her to be built as a facsimile of HMS ''Canopus'' (the ex-French ship ''Franklin'', which had fought at the Battle of the Nile).
