Park Plaza Hotel Leeds
Park Plaza Hotel Leeds (also known as ''Royal Exchange House'') is a tower block in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. It is situated in central Leeds on City Square near Leeds railway station. The tower was completed in 1966 after construction began in 1965 and was then an office block. It was redesigned in 2004 to host the four star Park Plaza Hotel. It has a roof height of 77m and 20 floors. It was Leeds' tallest building for seven years from 1966 to 1973, when it was succeeded by West Riding House. The hotel is particularly convenient for Leeds railway station, being situated directly opposite it, overlooking The Queen's Hotel, and for the financial district of Leeds city centre being situated right on the Leeds city centre loop. This is very close to the well known and popular Trinity shopping centre. Leeds () is a city and the administrative centre of the City of Leeds district in West Yorkshire, England. It is built around the River Aire and is in the eastern foothills of the Pennines. It is also the third-largest settlement (by population) in England, after London and Birmingham. The city was a small manorial borough in the 13th century and a market town in the 16th century. Queens Hotel (Leeds)
The Queens Hotel is a large hotel located on City Square in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. Built in 1937, it is an elegant Art Deco Grade II listed building and was frequented by the likes of Princess Grace of Monaco, Cary Grant and Nelson Mandela throughout its history. History The first railway hotel on this site was opened in 1863 for the Midland Railway. The Midland Railway was taken over by the London, Midland and Scottish Railway and in 1935 it was decided to demolish the old building and build a grand new one. This was officially opened on 12 November 1937, by the Princess Royal and Lord Harewood. The architect was W. H. Hamlyn and it was faced in white Portland stone with brick sides and rear. The interior design and Art Deco fittings are by William Curtis Green. The building used two million bricks and 40,000 cubic feet of Portland Stone. Leeds Town Hall is a 19th-century municipal building on The Headrow (formerly Park Lane), Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. Planned to include law courts, a council chamber, offices, a public hall, and a suite of ceremonial rooms, it was built between 1853 and 1858 to a design by the architect Cuthbert Brodrick. Leeds city centre is the central business district of Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. It is roughly bounded by the Leeds Inner Ring Road, Inner Ring Road to the north and the River Aire to the south and can be divided into several quarters. West Riding House
Pinnacle (formerly West Riding House) is an and 20 storey tall office building in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England, which was completed in 1973. It was the tallest building in the city until 2005 with the construction of Bridgewater Place. There are retail units on the ground floor of the building; it is located in the centre of the shopping district of the city. It was internally renovated in the early 2000s followed by a refurbishment of the lower floor retail space. Leeds City Council were originally the main tenants in the building but have since vacated their offices there. The building has a small multi-storey car park off Upper Basinghall Street to the rear. Until the 2000s the building stood out on the Leeds skyline, but the construction of taller buildings (including ones on higher ground than Pinnacle) have lessened its prominence. City Square, Leeds
City Square is a paved area north of Leeds railway station at the junction of Park Row, Leeds, Park Row to the east and Wellington Street to the south. It is a triangular area where six roads meet: Infirmary Street and Park Row to the north, Boar Lane and Bishopsgate Street to the south-east, and Quebec Street and Wellington Street to the south-west. The only building with a direct frontage is the former General Post Office, on the north-west side. History Proposals were made in 1893 to transform the area in front of the station. The demolition of Leeds' Coloured Cloth Hall and Quebec House gave an open space in which a new General Post Office was constructed in 1896 with a public space in front.
