Moelleropsis
''Fuscopannaria'' is a genus of lichen-forming fungi in the family Pannariaceae. It has 55 species. Taxonomy The genus was circumscribed by Norwegian lichenologist Per Magnus Jørgensen in 1994, with ''Fuscopannaria leucosticta'' assigned as the type species. Jørgensen had proposed the genus a year earlier, but the genus was not validly published at that time. ''Moelleropsis'' is a genus that was published by Vilmos Kőfaragó-Gyelnik in 1940, with ''Moelleropsis nebulosa'' assigned as its type species. Using molecular phylogenetics, it was later shown that this taxon was nested within ''Fuscopannaria''. Because ''Moelleropsis'' was published earlier than ''Fuscopannaria'', the botanical rules for nomenclature indicated that ''Fuscopannaria'' be folded into synonymy with ''Moelleropsis''. However, this would have meant that several dozen species would have had to change their names, so, in order to preserve "nomenclatural stability", in 2013 Jørgensen and colleagues propose ...

Gibbosporina
''Gibbosporina'' is a genus of 13 species of foliose lichens in the family Pannariaceae. It contains species that molecular phylogenetic analysis clustered together in a clade previously referred to as the "'' Physma''"-group. Despite their morphological differences, this group shares several uniting characteristics. They have ring-like excipular margins around the thallus; strongly amyloid internal ascus structures; well-developed perispores (a colorless, often gelatinous layer that envelops a spore) that feature irregular gibbae (irregular bumps), but not verrucae (small, rounded wart-like protuberances); lacks secondary compounds than can be detected by thin-layer chromatography; and have tropical distributions. Taxonomy It was circumscribed as a new genus in 2016 by Arve Elvebakk, Soon Gyu Hong and Per Magnus Jørgensen. The type species of the genus was assigned to ''Gibbosporina boninensis'', originally described in 1969 by Syo Kurokawa as ''Psoroma boninense''. The genus ...

Collematineae
The Collematineae are an suborder of rust fungi in the order of Peltigerales in the class Lecanoromycetes.David J. McLaughlin and Joseph W. Spatafora (Editors) It contains 5 families, the Coccocarpiaceae, the Collemataceae, the Pannariaceae, the Placynthiaceae and also the Vahliellaceae. History It was set up in 2004 to contain 4 families, the Coccocarpiaceae, the Collemataceae, the Pannariaceae and the Placynthiaceae by Miadlikowska & Lutzoni. The new suborder was agreed by Hibbet et al, in 2007 and Lumbsch and Huhndorf in 2007, and 2010. The other Peltigerales based suborder of Peltigerineae contained 6 families; Koerberiaceae, Lobariaceae, Massalongiaceae, Nephromataceae, Peltigeraceae and Vahliellaceae, also by Miadlikowska & Lutzoni in 2004. Vahliellaceae is still sometimes placed within the Peltigerineae suborder. A molecular phylogenetic study of the Collemataceae was carried out in 2010. It found that ascospore characteristics are a good predictor of phylogeny wi ...

Lepidocollema
''Lepidocollema'' is a genus of lichens in the family Pannariaceae. It was circumscribed in 1890 to contain a single Brazilian species that has not been collected since. In 2016, the entire family was revised and updated, resulting in the expansion of ''Lepidocollema'' to 24 tropical species. Taxonomay ''Lepidocollema'' was originally circumscribed in 1890 by Finnish lichenologist Edvard August Vainio with only the type species, '' L. carassense''. This lichen is a gelatinous ''Parmeliella''-like species that has a photobiont from the genus ''Nostoc''. It has only been collected once from Brazil. The family Pannariaceae was revised in 2014 with the help of molecular phylogenetics. As a result, the genus was accepted and 23 tropical species were transferred into it, mostly from the genus ''Parmeliella''. Phylogenetically, ''Lepidocollema'' is sister to '' Physma''. Description ''Lepidocollema'' is characterised by the formation of large, flat rosettes on a thick layer of rh ...

Atrophysma
''Atrophysma'' is a genus in the family Pannariaceae. It contains the single species ''Atrophysma cyanomelanos'', a crustose lichen found only in Alaska. Taxonomy Both the genus and species were described as new to science in 2020 by lichenologist Toby Spribille. The type specimen was discovered in Glacier Bay National Park, where it was found growing on argillite rock on the top of an alpine ridge; this location is typically covered by snow for most of the year. The generic name ''Atrophysma'' combines ''atra'' ("black") and ''physma'' ("to blow up or distend"); the specific epithet, which combines ''kyanos'' ("blue") and ''melas'' ("black"), alludes to the typical colors of the thallus and ascomata. The lichen had been discovered previously in a nearby location, Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park, as part of a similar lichen research survey in that area. It had been tentatively assigned to the genus '' Santessoniella'', but not formally described as a new species. ...
