Panama
Panama ( , ; es, link=no, Panamá ), officially the Republic of Panama ( es, República de Panamá), is a transcontinental country spanning the southern part of North America and the northern part of South America. It is bordered by Costa Rica to the west, Colombia to the southeast, the Caribbean Sea to the north, and the Pacific Ocean to the south. Its capital and largest city is Panama City, whose metropolitan area is home to nearly half the country's million people. Panama was inhabited by indigenous tribes before Spanish colonists arrived in the 16th century. It broke away from Spain in 1821 and joined the Republic of Gran Colombia, a union of Nueva Granada, Ecuador, and Venezuela. Rio Bravo (also, Panama and Old Panama) is a former settlement in Kern County, California. It was located on the railroad north of Panama. Rio Bravo was a Mexican settlement established in 1849. It took its name from the Spanish name for the Kern River ''Rio Bravo de San Felipe''. Later Rio Bravo was called Panama, and after that name was applied to the current place, as Old Panama. "Panama" (sometimes incorrectly called "Panama Rag") is a jazz standard. It is by William Henry Tyers, originally entitled "Panama, a Characteristic Novelty", published in 1912. Jazz legends who have played and recorded the song include the New Orleans Rhythm Kings, Luis Russell, Kid Ory, the Eureka Brass Band, and Humphrey Lyttelton. The famous trumpet variation commonly played by New Orleans music, New Orleans bands and those influenced by the New Orleans style was reportedly devised by Manuel Manetta, who first taught it to his star trumpet pupils Emmett Hardy and Red Allen. The original tango (music), tango or Maxixe (dance), maxixe rhythm is usually discarded in favor of common time, 4/4 time, but can still be detected in some versions, such as the early recording by Johnny DeDroit's Band. Panama is an electronic musical project from Sydney, Australia. Panama formed after Jarrah McCleary's previous band, The Dirty Secrets came to an end. Panama has allowed McCleary to experiment musically and develop a more electronic, house influenced style. Panama has seen band members come and go, but is spearheaded by Jarrah McCleary (lead vocals, keyboard, guitar), Tim Commandeur (drums) and Tom Marland (keyboard, guitar). Panama’s second EP ''Always'' (2014) nabbed the band spots on BBC Radio 1, Triple J’s iconic Hottest 100 and has had millions of plays on Soundcloud. The band recorded an EP in Los Angeles and embarked on tours around the world including playing at SXSW in 2014 and Primavera Festival in 2015. Panama, New York
Panama is a village in Chautauqua County, New York, United States. The population was 465 at the 2020 census. Panama is in the northwest part of the town of Harmony, at the junction of State Route 474 (Main Street) and County Route 33. The village is named after Panama Rocks, a large rock formation south of the village. Paleozoic fossils are visible in the outcrops. This site has become a tourist attraction, and the owners charge admission at the gate. History The village of Panama was incorporated in 1861. Among many early settlers was George Hawkins, who purchased Lot 50 in 1825. He was born in 1802 in Oneida County, New York. About 1827 he married Rhoda Powers (born 1806).
